  • Poor quality seller(s)

I recently got the itch to get a newer coach. Instead of selling my current coach outright I wanted to trade it in and pay the difference for a newer coach. I wanted to deal with a company that specializes in and sells Prevost Coaches.

    Doesn’t that sound simple?

Nope. I initially contacted the dealer via his email, then his salesman via his voice mail asking a simple question about the coach emissions system. I did not want DEF and it was a deal breaker. I described myself as serious and asked in addition to the DEF question for a rough estimate of my trade value. I am not unknown. I am a serious Prevost buyer, having owned them for 35 years. I finally got a response but it took far longer than necessary.

I finally got an answer about DEF. The coach did not require DEF. My response was i wanted to see the coach. Unfortunately it was not in the dealer’s possession but was too far away for me to look it over. But the photos were very complete and my knowledge of the coach converter was extensive so I indicated i would make a deal subject to an inspection because photos do not reveal the smell of mildew, cigarette smoke or an accident history. I asked again for an estimate of trade value.

No response to that question yet.

What the hell has happened to sellers that want to sell? What has happened to businesses anxious to deal with customers? I really like my existing coach, and do not need a different or newer one, but just the appeal of getting a newer one with improved systems is viewed as something that would be nice to do, but not if I have to tolerate shitty service.

I’m getting old, grumpy, and want to spend money, but that desire is quickly diminishing.

Are all potential buyers treated this poorly??????

Three years ago I contacted Marathon, told them my budget of 600,000. and never had them follow up. With watching the dealer grips on You Tube it does not surprise me.

I just heard from the dealer and he did answer my questions. I am disappointed however that while I awaited a response my desire to trade coaches diminished.

Speaking as an owner that wants values to remain high, it is to our advantage coach sellers should be aggressive. The more they sell, the fewer on the market, the higher the prices and we all benefit from that.

I’m still old, grumpy and expect sellers to respond quickly to buyers.

Very similar experience with two converters and one reseller. The latter clipped us for $10,000 which we were unable to recover. Leaves a very bad taste in your mouth. Mike

My enthusiasm to trade coaches continued despite my initial unhappiness with the dealer I wrote about above.

After a delay he did respond to my initial inquiries, but his proposal actually low balled the value of my coach. I responded with a counter proposal and detailed why it had merit. Later that day I asked for a trade proposal on another coach he had listed on his web site. So he had 2 emails from me, both expressing my desire to spend money.

I never got a response to the last 2 emails that were explicit in stating I was ready to buy. It is not like I am unknown or kicking tires. I have now owned a Prevost coach for 35 years, three of them, and was anxious to get my fourth because the two I was interested in had some features I would enjoy.

I have cash in hand, in fact enough to buy either outright. But I’ll be damned if I have to beg someone for a response so I can spend my money. Those that know me understand i am anal about my coaches, and not only does every coach I owned get a full service and inspection every 5000 miles, I throw away good parts, replace them with new just because in my mind they “aged” out.

Additionally my coach works with two minor glitches I will repair in 1500 miles at my next service event. If I were to trade in the coach I would fix them if that was needed to make the deal work.

But I just happened to hit on a dealer that likely has more business than he needs, doesn’t need to sell any of his inventory, and I find out now I am not alone with my poor experience.

The practical side of things came to bear on my thought process. Except for a few systems differences the newer coaches have nothing my coach doesn’t have. My coach to me is a known. A newer coach is likely to have a number of unknown issues and most importantly it will not have modifications i made to mine over the years to make it far easier to use.

So I am done and will not consider replacing my coach. Thank you Mr. Poor Service Dealer for your shitty customer service. I will not name you here, but anyone that asks privately will be warned about my experience along with some things I have learned from others you have dealt with. The Prevost Community is a small population and word of mouth spreads fast among its members.

The low ball on the trade does not surprise me at all. That’s always been the case on any trade I have made be it car or MH!

    Jon;

Feel your pain. Attempting to make a full lithium upgrade on a large boat I am overseeing, It will involve new lithium batteries, alternators, new chargers, new inverters, new monitors, and replacement/adding new cabling as needed.

Non of the smaller marine electrical contractors want to take this project on. We have turned to one of the largest marine electrical companies on the East Coast. It’s been over 3 months now and they continue asking specifically what we want after they have charged us to inspect the vessel to tell us what we need.We turned to the supposed specialist for advice and direction and all they are doing is requesting us to do the research and tell them what we want.

This will be around a $60,000 project once completed and we can’t get anyone to take it on. I am an amateur on the outside looking in when it comes to electrical, but would think this project would be pretty straightforward for a professional. Low hanging fruit ripe for the picking and no takers.

Does anyone want to work anymore?

Hey Jon, I feel your pain …

September 15th, 2024 – I began a search for a new bus too. I contacted four conversion companies asking them what I thought were basic questions about the different systems on their coaches, dimensions and tank volumes.

While three converters responded within the week, one told me a few “white lies” to get me interested in their company and NO ONE answered all of my questions.

    They still haven’t.

Seriously, four converters who have youtube videos posted where they talk about their systems and volumes, gave me different numbers than they talk about in their videos. Only one could provide details of their house systems and no one could provide me dimension data. I had to contact Prevost, three times, and Prevost finally answered my dimension questions.

It turns out, I knew more about the coaches they were selling than their own sale people. My search began six months ago and I still do not have all my questions answered. They all must have lost my email address and phone number, because I have not heard from anyone in four months now.

Like you, I’m not begging someone to take my money, especially when they have little to no product knowledge. I’m supposed to trust people like that to repair my new coach and honor a warranty ?

Good thing my current coach is a keeper.

Michael: If you were just a tire kicker I might understand a reluctance to follow up with you on your questions and plans. But you are not. You have more years of bus ownership and experience than the average buyer and that seems to me makes you a serious prospect.

Telling of lies is widespread in my current experience. Maybe converters have more business than they need, and sellers of used coaches also seem to be acting like they don’t need customers.

we stopped at Marathon Florida for an estimate in April. we realized that nothing gets done right away, so we told them that we would drop the coach off when we return in the fall, and they could have all winter to complete the job, if needed. The technician came out, spent over an hour in our bus, took dimensions, discussed finishes, and he said he had all the information he needed to get us an estimate. He said he would send it to us shortly. This was not just a cheap inexpensive job to be done. we wanted both of our front chairs rebuilt and recovered, wanted the office cabinet enlarged, wanted the carpet in the front changed over to wood, wanted a flatscreen TV lift installed in the newly modified office desk, and the old TV area in the dash overhead modified with a door for additional storage. we have now waited almost 3 months with no response. we were hoping now that there has been some changes in personnel, that we would get better service than we have in the past, but I guess it’s just the same poor service as it always was. i am sure if we wanted to trade up to a new coach we would get better service.
