Tired of Cruise airs and basement airs
Posted by Jamey on February 1, 2024 at 8:59 amI am going to do away with the cruise airs and the basement air on my H3 45. Parts are getting impossible to find and hard to work on. I am looking at putting 4 – Gree Eco Cool heat pump air conditioners on it. They are 15,000 BTU and at full speed pull about 800 watts verses 1500 watts on other brands. Also they are super quite. I will post photos of my install which I will do this spring. The low profile AC units are 11 inches tall and these are 13 inches tall. I am going to keep it simple and use non ducted AC units with manual controls. Any thoughts will be welcomed.

AquaAir marine air conditioning out of Ft. Lauderdale, FL has a drop in unit for the Cruisairs. Uses existing controls, runs around 12-13 Amps, has soft start so start up amp ramp up from 7 amps to the running amps.
I have the first unit in my bus, works great, runs quite.

Always interested to see what people are doing.
Prices are definitely more affordable then cruise air repairs/replacement
What year and conversion do you have

Ditto. I put 3 Penguin II roof airs on mine. Easy? No. Doable? Yes. Let me know if you have questions. Will be at WPB. Mike

Thanks! I have a tech coming from Nashville that has done this job many times to help me. BUT if I run into problems I will let you know.

I am going to install the same units, just branded as Tosot. They are supposed to be inverter based, and they use the new R32 refrigerant. I already have penguin roof airs, one of three not working, and just too damn loud. Looking forward to much quieter units. Hope to all in the spring as well

I installed the ECO Cool units on the coach and they are super quite!

My OTR was removed many years ago by a previous owner and replaced with three Dometic units. Those units have served the purpose, but I would love to replace them with a mini-split.
-
Has anyone married a mini-split with the OTR duct work? Considered it?
-
I guess what I’m asking is this…with full Prevost OTR heating and A/C (not Prevost “dash air”) the OTR evaporator is located in it’s own side compartment on one side of the bus and is connected to the OTR ducts that run the full length of the bus interior…the OTR condenser is also located in it’s own compartment on the other side of the bus. Has anyone removed the Prevost OTR heating and A/C, and installed a mini-split system in it’s place, with the evaporator blowing in to the OTR duct work? My thoughts are that this would eliminate the need (and work) of installing three interior evaporators, no? My cruiseairs are still working so I’m not ready to go this route…yet. My biggest question is the velocity and volume of air needed to push through the entire OTR duct work and whether the existing huge 24 volt fans would be needed…

A minor detail, right? Oh well, thanks Don for taking my temperature. Incidentally, I thought I posted under Jack Houpe’s recent “Cruiseair” thread…maybe it was moved?

I want to apologize for horning in on your thread, it was not right for me to do this. I started my own and if your interested follow it.
