    Andy,

Explain the need to manually add DEF. Not sure do X’s not have fuel fillers on both sides? Is the DEF only on one side? I though I read something about Prevost addressing this issue. Perhaps I’m dreaming it

    Andy ,

Its part of the coach’s history. It looks fine and might even be a selling point should You ever decide to sell. Most folks will never notice the #. I say enjoy !

I like the “76” comment. And I can imagine what would happen if I pulled into a park with a ten year rule!

If it ain’t broken don’t fix it … working on this site is now harder than chasing air leaks … used to love daily lookups, now it’s way too frustrating. Won’t even try on an iphone. Consider restoring old way until this is fully beta tested. This obviuosly wasn’t released in a limited fashion. Advertiser’s will be more upset with these issues than before. Consider chanigng banners on a rotational basis in the proven system. ALWAYS Beta test with a small group of active posters!!!!

Allan thinks enough of me to have reached out privately on this issue. Thanks for the confidence you have in me. I’ll paraphrase what I told me about what I did.

I had the 1999 Liberty installed boat anchor charger (probably the best money could at the time, after all Liberty used it). Jeff Rowe warned me about leaving it on for any length of time as it would boil the batteries. I had a dead battery problem, tried to use the boat anchor to charge them, but nothing. So Jeff and I thought it was the boat anchor, so I removed it, tried to set it, welded some of my tools together, and I decided to abandon it. Turns out (after ten days of screwing around) we had a dead cell in a five month old Interstate that Interstate replaced under warranty

Bought the then (2014) biggest Marinco/Guest charger I could find. Would charge 12 and 24 volts as I recall. Couldn’t find a clear “mount on the ceiling of the engine bay without any problems whatsoever”, so I had a welder fab up an overbuilt bracket for the charger that I mounted to the chassis an inch or so aft of the chassis battery box.

The wiring diagram in the distructions had did NOT address a Prevost four battery 12/24 volt array. Someone on the forum provided me with this schizmatic that I used:

It made sense to me. So I used it. I tested the charger after the install and it appeared to work. I inadvertently drained down the chassis batteries once, turned the breaker on for the “24 volt Charger” that Liberty has conveniently installed on the electrical panel in the coach, and it worked. No smoking, no burnt elecrical smell, no melted insulation yet, no deformed battery cases. Now the big questions is does Allan have a charger exactly like the one in the diagram!

If Liberty or Prevost Service monitors posts to the PC Forum, either or both (or even Ben Cummings!), they are encouraged to comment (1) of the most appropriate chassis battery chargers for our coachs and (2) the best wiring diagram. I wonder who will comment first.

Sorry to disappoint you. I won’t laugh my ass off at you. I will smile. Been there done that. It took me much longer than I think it should have to figure out the Roman numeral thing.

Its unfortunate someone answered the question for you, so you still have to pass this part of the test. Do a new question:

How long is an “XLII” coach and an “X3” coach?

Please, NO OUTSIDE HELP for Ron. Otherwise it will take him forever to get past this phase of the test.

    Harry,

I’m late to this thread, but couldn’t agree more with Jon who told you to get in your bus and run it repeatedly.

We went to the seminar before having or using our bus. We did learn a number of good things to look, or look out for. However, Jon is exactly right that you don’t know the right questions to ask when you haven’t used your bus extensively.

Like many things in life, you learn via OJT, and there’s simply no replacement for that kind of training.

After two years on the road, basically fulltiming in the bus, I’m just getting to the point of understanding all the complicated systems, but I look forward to many more adventures!

    Harry,

From a newbie’s perspective, Jon made a very good point. You may consider picking up your coach at least a week prior to the seminar and get some seat and sleep time on the bus before taking your first drink from the firehose.

If I can add one more item, keep a notepad and pen handy and start making lists of questions as they pop into your mind. Remember, there’s no dumb questions when it comes to operating a bus as everyone was a newbie once.

Speaking of lists, I’ve found it very helpful to have printed checklists in a binder that has a page for each specific usage or parking situation. Yes, it’s time consuming to put them together, but when facing scenarios such as arriving/departing a full hookup site, having electrical hookups only or when taking the bus in/out of storage, having a printed guide for the steps needed removes quite a bit of stress that you may have forgotten something. Your lists will be a bit shorter than mine as you can skip the “slides in/out” section!

Now that Lucy is traveling onboard, I need to edit my lists to add: Remove green poop bag from wheel.

    Thanks for everyones replies.

It is good to know that the 470hp is strong enough to push a 45′ in most cases. I wanted to know if the bus would be going backwards on a long incline. Like Mark said, I do not want to be “underwelmed” . Sounds like most everyone is happy. I don’t want 600hp if it is not needed, on the other hand if 470hp was not enough I would want a bit more. Seems like most buses have 500+.
