  • Front cap painting

Posted by Mike on September 2, 2017 at 6:57 pm

after a certain amount of years our buses need a little love on the front cap, rear cap and side radius areas that get so much of the heat and sun bake. My last MH, a tiffin Allegra bus had this same issue even though it was 7 years newer than my Prevost.

I Chose once again to trust my local paint shop to take good care of my rig- and I thought I would post a couple photos for anyone interested.

The guys at Wayside Body shop grabbed these for me not long after they had started prep work. I know, I should have gotten a couple before they started. Although I do have a couple of spots down the radius’ as well we decided to focus this trip on the front cap. A nice bonus wil be the new LED marker lights when it’s finished.

For those of you consodering this type type of thing – be aware that (at least in delaware and Maryland) your entire bus must be able to fit inside the paint booth. This is a feat for nearly any shop. Wayside does a lot of MH’s and OTR Trucks – thus the reason they can accommodate.

Lastly – the paint job has been promised to be of prevost quality / there will be no feeling the stripes through the clear coat ( and should be felt for the time spec’ for wet sanding and buffing!)

    Progress update.

Apparently i had some small cracks around the marker lights. This allowed a little moisture to be in each light .

    more photos of the progress.

You mentioned “new market lights LED”. I presume those are the high ones. Were you able to find plug and play replacements for the high marker lights?

The lights that came out were LED right? When I was resealing a couple things up top, I had replaced a couple around the top of my coach because they were cracked around the screw holes. The new ones were LED just like the old ones.

It is the upper marker lights. They were not led. The new replacements are led.

the replacement part number was suggested on the forum – part number and all – I’ll try to dig up the part numbers or the link to the posting that listed it.

the cap is now prime red, starts in for paint tomorrow.

That may have been the point Prevost had just switched to LED lights. I just suggested that b/c before I had started my sealing project I called Prevost and ordered more marker lights. I asked about LED ones and the gal said the ones I already have are LED. She was right.

    thanks dorel!

The clear “flaking” was driving me nuts even though you couldn’t see it from the ground.

Patrick, you were right. The original marker lights were led. 1 had failed and couple others were not far behind.

For the small cost (under $20 each) I highly recommend replacing them if they have “aged out”

in case anyone is interested in what the led marker lights look like at 17 years old…here are my originals ( date stamped 2000)

this was the worst one. I broke it apart to show the led cluster.
