  • Everybody’s Favorite Game Show…Paint or Wrap?

Posted by Andy on September 13, 2017 at 10:24 pm

As you may have noticed, my bus has the logo of the NFL player who owned my bus for two years (original owner). While at the beginning, I thought I’d try to paint ot cover it up, personally, I like the colors and it doesn’t bother me. And hey, when I pull into a diesel station, it’s fun looking at the faces of people when they see this little guy and realize I’m not a NFL player.

Yes, painting is expensive and knowing me, I have no ideal I’ll keep this bus. Yeah, I’m a bit eccentric.

While I know little about wraps, I know they have pros and cons. I’ve met with the master, Jamie at Wrap Artists in Nashville and he’s a great guy! If I go the wrap route, I’ll have confidence in his work.

    So the question is,..

What are the negatives of wrapping an X3 bus?

Since this is a game show, there is a prize. Dinner with either Harry or HJ and the good news, one of them is buying!

morning Andy, honestly I’ve never noticed the NFL players logo… These buses always have such awesome paint schemes I don’t even look that hard, just take in the entire view. That being said there seems to be a lot of wraps that go on the entertainment side. Can’t imagine there is a giant downside, but when I wrap a new work van which is about 1/3 the square footage I know the cost time getting into. The thought of tripling that price to me personally is a little steep for a non-permanent solution. I think the OCD side of myself would not like the little edges and corners etc. that may not be perfect or start to lift.

As I’m pretty sure you’re the type of guy that would never shy away from a conversation with a stranger I would think the NFL logo and the resulting conversations because of it would be a sad thing to see you go away

With that said if it really bothers you I would paint it. Hey, it’s a Prevost. Go big or go home 😉

Hi Andy, While most would think of me more as a nightmare I’d be delighted to take the winner to dinner. And keeping with the theme of your game show I’ve noticed that both Macdonald’s and Burger King (where I currently work flipping burgers to pay Jeff) have wraps!

But it let’s do dinner for sure. Just have your people call mine… Me having people, that’s a riot!

    Andy,

Could you post a picture of what you are talking about? In your past posted bus pics, I never noticed a logo.

Thanks Mark, I agree with you… I’ve watched Andy’s videos showing his bus and don’t remember anything like he’s mentioned? Wow, this happens to all of us at one time or another, do you think this is maybe Andy’s time?

I just finished wrapping the H3. Never wrapped anything before. Just bought some squeezes and 3M1080 material . 200+ hours and 4 rolls and it looks good.

I think your coach looks great and a wrap would not make it “better”. One thing you need to know is that any height differences in the paint will show. We even wet sanded one side with 800 grid and we could not feel any height difference in the paint. But yet we could see the paint lines showing up! (very slightly, but still there)

First post btw. Thank you all for posting good information.

Save your money Andy, just tell everyone it’s a 76 model.

I like the “76” comment. And I can imagine what would happen if I pulled into a park with a ten year rule!

    Andy ,

Its part of the coach’s history. It looks fine and might even be a selling point should You ever decide to sell. Most folks will never notice the #. I say enjoy !

    Thanks All.

When I first saw this bus at the Tampa show, I didn’t notice it either. But once the salesman pointed it out, it was plain as day. The good news is that the custom paint scheme most likely caused a few previous sales to fall through the cracks and some had spoken to Walter about the options for hiding the logo.

The other good news is that it really doesn’t bother me and I may have gotten a better deal because of it!

I’ll be doing a six month, 7K mile update in the near future, but I can cut to the chase and say that even with a few minor annoyances, I’m very happy with this bus. The layout works well for me and she drives like a dream on the road. The Aware system makes the highway miles melt away. The Volvo engine is much quieter than I would have imagined and while I don’t love having to manually add DEF from containers, it’s not really that much of an inconvenience.

    Yes, happy camper here!

Hi Andy, I see now it shows 76 but you’re not really going to repaint the coach because of it are you? As others have said, “Its part of the history of the coach”.

Another option is to donate your bus to the “Harry Save the World Foundation”! To show my heart is in the right place I’ll even pick it up at your place, NO delivery needed! I know what you’re thinking “pretty magnanimous of you Harry”?

That’s what they call me on the continent, magnanimous Harry!

    Andy,

Explain the need to manually add DEF. Not sure do X’s not have fuel fillers on both sides? Is the DEF only on one side? I though I read something about Prevost addressing this issue. Perhaps I’m dreaming it

Harry, would it be okay if I changed the 76 to HJ?

Until recently, the Prevost DEF models only allow for DEF to be added on the passenger side. Yes, diesel can be added on both sides, but DEF only on one. So, unless I pull in a truck stop backwards, there’s no way to fill the DEF tank at the pump. Some folks have said that I can use the driver’s side pump for diesel and the pump on the other side of the island (passenger side) to add DEF. But honestly, it’s easier and faster filling from a jug.

I’ve spoken to Prevost and there is no mod for this. Again, it’s not that difficult.

Andy, If you did not tell me about the paint I would never have seen it…and the paint job is beautiful…I would not touch it if it was mine….
