hello guys and thank you for the responses .
Jon, I do believe you hit it on the head . When I took the readings and only had 12v on the Vanner and should have had 13.5+- the issue was revealed .
Tom, sorry I should have know better to think you would recommend a tow . So I have a new Vanner arriving from Fla Prevost Wends and when arrives i will install and report back my results .
Dick, I do think it is time to change the batterys and some cables .

From Hastings,Ne. Had rolling blackouts today. The reason is no wind and too cold for wind farms and solar farms are covered in snow not to mention it is cloudy. Can you imagine the demand if we all had electric cars?
What are these nutty politicians and so called scientist thinking?

I have been studying my fuel gauge recently as I am in a new to me coach. It’s an H3, so take with a grain of salt when translating to XLII. I suspect the shape of the tanks are different between the two models.
My observations:
+ My H3 fuel tank is listed as 230 gallons with a disclaimer on the fuel door that 200 gallons is the “working limit”.
+ Gauge on my XLII seemed more linear. XLII would stay on full for several hundred miles before starting to drop. The H3 drops faster from full. It also lingers around 1/4 tank longer before dropping.
+ 1/4 tank indicated on H3 is really 1/3 full. This supports what Jon said about the gauge being biased to read low.
I’m indicating 6 mpg on the DI Computer and actually averaging 6.2-6.3 mpg across the last 500-600 gallons, so that translates to a little more than 1200 miles per tank. I try to never exceed 1000 miles since last fill. I will continue to monitor as I burn more fuel.
That’s my story. Your experience may be different, but wanted to share my observations.

Lee Smith is not far from there and they have hook-ups. Clark Power is just south of you and they are the local DD/Allison shop but no hook-ups. Good luck.

Al, Following up on this you have two considerations. First, ignore the cause of dead batteries, get those replaced with 4 new fully charged ones and get to Jeff to analyse the needed repairs. Or if you can get the engine running and do a test determine if it is the alternator or regulator.
My vote is to replace the batteries or fully charge them and get to Jeff’s. Perhaps he has a set he can commandeer to get you up the road.

It is a learning . Soon I will be a picture posting machine 🙂 No doubt a picture is worth a thousand words when describing a issue . Thank you Tom & Jon for this great platform to share and learn .

Vanner on their web site has information about equalizers and how to check them. That vintage Vantare likely has a Vanner monitor for the chassis which will reveal if the chassis equalizer is working. I do not know what Vantare did to provide information on gauges or warning lights to monitor the house batteries.
What is critical however is that the failure of an equalizer will cause the loss of charging on the 12 volt side of the battery banks.

I replaced the bulb with LED`s great improvement. A lot cheaper then replacing whole assembly.

Cory, I had the same problem, get your flashlight and look between the fender liner and the fender, the right fender has the same mounts and are easy to see and give you a visual for what you are looking for on the left.

How do we get some pictures if there was anything sent to you with the parts, thanks.
Good to read success on the hunt for your problem.
You will be happy with the Centramatics installed. Centramatics come shipped on soft ride setting.
In my case that was exactly how they were installed right out of the box.
