2000 Featherlite XL Vantare Charging?
My buddy just bought a 2000 Featherlite XL 45 ft with Over the road and roof airs. and he’s having problems with the Vanner EQ not charging 12v side of batteries. I have not seen bus yet he lives he a few miles away but he saying it only has just the one 50DN alternator that does ever thing House and chassis batteries?? does not have 12v and 24v chargers, I know the chassis batteries do both 12v and 24v and Vanner EQ ballances them, but with just the 50 DN Vanner is working overtime trying to charge all of them??

Art, now mine is a 98 XL however maybe batts are the same . In the bay where the house batteries are on a side wall or above their is separate 12/24 balance for charging . Mine had gone bad and i replaced with the vanner as it was all i could find and did the same . If a pic is needed tex me because I have idea how to post from my flip phone 🙂

Al! Do you have 2 altanators the DN50 the large one on Detroit and a smaller Altanator by fan driven by superior gear box

The number and voltage output of engine driven alternators was determined by the converter and the coach configuration.
Generally as an example an OTR coach, with a 24V house had a 50DN charging house and chassis batteries.
The same coach, with OTR, but a 12V house usually had a 50DN dedicated to the chassis, and a 12V alternator (around 145 to 150 amps) dedicated to the 12V house.
A non OTR coach that was set up to run house A/C units (roof or Cruisair) through inverters while being driven often had a 50DN to handle the house and A/C loads, with a smaller dedicated 24V alternator (145 to 150 amps) for the chassis.
Then there are coaches with multiple Bosch alternators which is a whole different world.
Point being the coach configuration, how it is equipped and the converter all influence alternators, including how many, their size and principal purpose.

Yes Jon! He sent me pictures and only 1 altanator 50DN I don’t know if it is a 12v or 24v house?

With 1 50 DN, he will have a Equalizer for the chassis and an Equalizer for the house and most likely an Isolator in the engine compartment.

Vanner has a good web-site and reading about the vanners it talks about batteries A 24v and batteries B 12v and it says they have to have the same amp hr batteries, how do they do that with house battsa lot of amp hrs verses 24v batts 2 of them, I guessthat”s why they have 2 EQ’s

Vanner on their web site has information about equalizers and how to check them. That vintage Vantare likely has a Vanner monitor for the chassis which will reveal if the chassis equalizer is working. I do not know what Vantare did to provide information on gauges or warning lights to monitor the house batteries.
What is critical however is that the failure of an equalizer will cause the loss of charging on the 12 volt side of the battery banks.

Does yours have some sort of relay to start fan for generator. I can not get mine to run so it overheats generator. Where the generator disconnect is a red knob not sure what that is for?

My 95 Marathon has OTR and only 1 50 DN.
