Al, Following up on this you have two considerations. First, ignore the cause of dead batteries, get those replaced with 4 new fully charged ones and get to Jeff to analyse the needed repairs. Or if you can get the engine running and do a test determine if it is the alternator or regulator.

My vote is to replace the batteries or fully charge them and get to Jeff’s. Perhaps he has a set he can commandeer to get you up the road.

Jon, after I confirm the issue I do plan to work my way to Jeff’s if possible . He is 82 miles from us on 75 as you know . So the question I have is would a fresh set of battery’s get me there ? Assuming we use only the daylight running lights , dont think I can shut them down and cruise control or not , will we have enough juice to get there ? Thank you for responding .

Lee Smith is not far from there and they have hook-ups. Clark Power is just south of you and they are the local DD/Allison shop but no hook-ups. Good luck.

Was able to get enough power to do a couple readings

27v off alternator

12/13v on battery’s

12.2 from scan gauge . Now this drop’s when driving . balance light still on

12v on vanner and 24v

Is it possible the battery’s are bad and wont take a charge if alternator is showing 27v ?

I would keep on to Jeff place if you have 27 volts. All the power you need in the daytime driving is for the engine ECM and injectors. If the Bal light is on it won’t stop you from driving.

We were able to get a jump or a little charge if you will and drive the 5 miles to the campground . So we plan to head to Nashville with the 4×4 Truck to pick up the dog and stop at Prevost for parts . Think I should buy the VR and maybe the Vanner if they have it .If we test out the battery’s and they ar the issue we plan to book a few extra days till the storm passes and change them out .

Does this sound like the way to go guys ?

Al, I scanned the posts quickly but it sounds as if your equalizer has failed. If the 12V side of things is not charged your engine quits.

It does not sound like an alternator regulator issue but imbalance. Were you driving with the blue balance light oN?

The easy fix is get a 12 volt charger on the 12V sideof the chassis batteries (diagram on door), and secure the charger and power it off of a 120v outlet near the engine, like block heater or some other source.

hello guys and thank you for the responses .

Jon, I do believe you hit it on the head . When I took the readings and only had 12v on the Vanner and should have had 13.5+- the issue was revealed .

Tom, sorry I should have know better to think you would recommend a tow . So I have a new Vanner arriving from Fla Prevost Wends and when arrives i will install and report back my results .

Dick, I do think it is time to change the batterys and some cables .
