Al, Jon is probably still measuring to see if it will fit his new XlII, and if it will impact getting it into his garage! You know how much he had to go through to see if the new bus would fit….

I finished replacement on my clutch yesterday. I blew through the two hours of time allotted that Jon mentioned, just thinking about it. That sucker (replacement clutch) is heavy, very heavy. Holding the clutch with my arms extended was “toooough“. But I did finally get it installed, with much grunting. I have not tested it yet, but the replacement unit was different than the unit originally installed. The replacement unit was very heavy duty.

I stripped the Boston Superior gearbox out of the way, which gave me better access. While I had the gearbox out, I replaced the three oil seals on the shafts.

Looks like we have the same coach. I figured fact that the radiator is ten years old could be the reason it’s turning to dust. I assume you drain the system thru the radiator. I have the same gauges but they’re not in a good spot to monitor while going down the road and after it shuts down it’s too late to check them. I’m just guessing on the overheating because it should only shut down because of low oil pressure or overheating. At any rate the radiator needs replacement I would think.

I have over 2500 on my Powertech 15. I use mine while driving for the AC dash air alone will not make it. After reading these post I think I should start making log entries for the hours on the Generator. The Beaver has a Command Control panel that lets you know when to change the oil on the Gen, which I use, but I have no idea how many hours between alerts, thinking 300.

OK, I’m home now with all the modern conveniences, so send money!

If you think a bus is expensive, try a big boat in the Caribbean!
Split 3 ways not bad, but the memories will be priceless.

When my air leak was located on our bus my first choice was NAPA. Most stores carry a good selection of brass fittings, DOT fittings and valves. I was unable to find a valveI needed due to a space restriction. Where I did find a valve was from a company here in KC that specializes in air , fluid , hoses, fittings.

Another place to look is on-line google…… Parker fittings.

I was the same problem and sent an email to prevost.parts.online@volvo.com. Here was the reply:

We had some issues with our system so we had to reset the passwords.

Please use ‘’ initpass’’ (in lower case) for the new password; this is for online ordering and parts catalogue.

Not sure if they reset my user ID or not, but it was working within 30 minutes of the email

It’s real simple to do. Drill our the rivets on the “H” molding at the top of the windows and bend up. This leaves the rivets under the “H” molding exposed along with the rivets along the window frame. Either drill out or grind off ( I drilled them out but you could use a 4 1/2″ grinder) the rivets. Once all the rivets are smooth to the frame, use a pointed punch to punch out the rivets. Once that is done, start at the bottom and peel the window and frame out. I say peel, because Prevost uses a very sticky goo to hold the window frames in place and make them waterproof. Be careful peeling them out because the glass in the windows will fracture if you put to much stress on them.

I also left you a long post on the window covering technique I used on the other post. BTW, some leave the windows and frames in place and just cover them over with aluminum or fiberglass sheets. That may be effective but it leaves lots os excess weight in the coach that you have to haul around and pay diesel to transport.

Hector, for starters let me say that you are the best technical writer there is. That presentation is a masterpiece. Thank you for explaining how it came about, too. Priceless.

And how therapeutic it was to listen to your Prevost Fort Worth experience! I have just escaped (not unscathed)

from a similar experience at WW Williams in Phoenix. I had been wondering if anyone else had ever had such things

happen to them. Thank you for being forthcoming about that as well. If I can ever get the stomach to, I will describe my experience in this forum, too, so that others can become that much better informed. I am tired of feeling like a lamb to the proverbial …. I do not enjoy being duped. None of us should have to be in that position.

So anyway, my coach has just developed the leans. This is the first time since I bought it 18 months ago. I am in a

town of 2,000 and staying here for the season. So your presentation is a real boon…a daggone life saver. I am going to use it and Jon’s PDF to diagnose the problem. Thank you, Jon, as well. I haven’t read the PDF yet but will next. (What’s with the spacing in this message? 🙂

I feel confident now that I can diagnose it and fix it. I am confident that I can do a better job than the majority of mechanics I have seen, who have left my coach worse off than when I took it to them. grrrrr

So thank you for relieving my anxiety. I had decided that many so-called experts were not but I was not sure how to go about fixing it myself. There is a vast difference in giving fix-it advice and giving a presentation that removes the clouds of confusion in anyone’s mind who hasn’t worked on these coaches for years. You are so generous with the rest of us. Thank you so much, Hector. I can appreciate all that you went through to bring us all up to speed.

There are things in spare parts I’am sure you already have just in case. As long trips go it sort of ends up needing something you shoiuld of taken. Example, extra pair of wiper blades. We assume the usual maintance is up to date before your trip starts.

Have you been under neath the bus lately ?

On our boating long range trips I had inventory records of everything I carried on board in water tight plastic boxes, each numbered. This may seem like overkill but when something goes wrong finding what you need keeps the blood pressure low.

One thing I read lately on one of the forums was a bus owner carried several 6 inch square wood blocks. The more I think about them the more sense they make. A flat, support for repair, behind a tire while parked. You might consider carring a couple.

Another item I just added to the spare parts was a 3 foot long round steel rod with one end slightly bent and tapered tip.

This could provide super strength to move or support.

Last and most important; up to date phone numbers, Prevost, Detroit D, support techs factory and independent.

OK Folks Don Fairchild of Bakersfield, CA is co-sponsoring this event, and has told me to make the dates work for the majority as he can be here Aug. 24th-26th or really anytime after that in September.

We have narrowed it down to the weekend of the 24th thru the 26th or Labor Day weekend Aug 31st through Sept 3rd or 4th.

I’m asking for people who think they will make it to give us the weekend that works best for them so we can lmake it best for the MAJORITY of attendees!
