The economic downturn hit everybody very hard with some Prevost converters not producing, some closing their doors and others producing far less than normal.

That downturn saw the value of every coach plummet and some coaches that were repos dumped into the market at prices that were unheard of.

As far a the topic which was to compare CAC replacement with that of a Prevost, I don’t think Prevost has much to be proud of. A far better CAC could have been used making premature CAC replacement unnecessary, but instead used one that was know to be of lesser quality in place of one with a demonstrated long life and higher quality. Perhaps the comparison should be between Prevost CAC replacement time compared to what it would have been if they used the better quality CAC.

Dick, said bumper was 6″ by 5′ freeloading it’s way down the I-35 in OKC. I was in the middle lane, medium to heavy traffic, the bumper had migrated from the left, crossed in front and managed to juuuust about clear the road to my right when a pickup smoked by me on the right and kicked it back into the front of the bus. It hit HARD about 18″s below the passenger windshield, we were lucky. Hard to believe, but all it did was dent the main stainless panel on the front, I was amazed.

On another note The Redhead and I are off this afternoon for a week of wandering around Minnesota and possibly Wisconsin. Maybe give you a holler if we get into your neck of the woods.

    Jacky,

I don’t have a Marathon, but if you have any power available at all, including a non-GFCI 120V circuit you can keep enogh power into the coach to at least keep the refrig working and keep the house batteries in float. The chassis will be OK. You have some phantom loads, but with fully charged house batteries you will not need more than that amount of current.

If you do have to shut down the coach make sure you find out from Marathon the sequence they require. All our coaches of the vintage you have typically have shut down procedures. Mine has a specific sequence and failure to follow the sequence can damage some items.

That’s true – and if you did this you’d need to set your invertors to a 30 (or like 27) amp limit… since it’s not 50.

On our bus – this seems a lot easier than the dip switches everyone is talking about – it’s just a menu item on the invertor panels. A few button presses and you’re all set!

    Pray……………

I had that happen. But I was fortunate in that when it came out in my hand the mechanism remained together long enough to allow the door to pop open.

I cannot remember the details, but I had to disassemble the mechanism from the bay I wanted open, reconnect the rod and make a modification to the mechanism to insure it would not ever come apart again. That was too long ago for me to remember the details. I presume you have a twin to that door release on the opposite side of the coach. If you have to figure out the magic trick to open the defective door that is the one that will reveal exactly how it is put together and what you may have to do to get the bad one open.

I can assure you there is nothing in any book anywhere that shows what you have to do.

    John,

Motorhomes of Texas (MOT) is owned by David Robertson, a man of very good character. While not perfect, MOT does not set out to “Do you dirty” and will always correct any oversight, no problem. I know them well from having service there and as friends.

Suggest you ask for Mel Cordray in sales when you call. Tell him I recommended him. MOT will treat you well.

I will be in Nacogdoches on June 1 or 2 if that will help you.

I’m with Karl on this one. As long as you are legal in the states concerned, then why not? If FL says you are OK if the bus or whatever is, is out of the state for six months or whatever, then as long as you abide by the rule so what? You always hear Google and Facebook et al saying ‘we always abide by the tax rules in the countries we operate in’ so why shouldn’t that apply to individuals’ tax planning as well. Reducing your tax liability always requires jumping through a few hoops. I do agree though that those who just say buy a bus thru a MT LLC and just drive home to their own state and park it in the garage are asking for trouble.

Facebook does hundreds of millions of dollars business in the UK every year but because they are ‘based’ in Ireland, they pay virtually no tax to the UK government. Same with Apple who have $100B+ outside of the US that they don’t want to bring back because they will be taxed on it.

Reducing your tax liability (or sales tax in this instance) by exploiting the rules in each state is everyones’ right just as it is for the corporates. You could bet your last dollar that if Facebook were to buy a bus, they would work out as way of not paying any sales tax as well as depreciating it through their books.

My message center also says 7.2

It is lying. Over the last 9200 miles it is 6.4 based on fuel taken on divided into miles traveled. For the last 3000 miles it is 6.5, but the display says 7.2. The increase over the last 3000 miles I think is due to travel over flatter terrain than normal, and the fact half of it I was not towing.

If the message center is what you guys are using to plan fuel stops, be careful.
