As I was about to get to the bottom of this post, when my screen went totally brown. Must have been some of that stuff Jon wants delivered to Knoxville. TP won’t clear the screen as the brown is on the inside! Guess I’ll have to call the local Computer Doctors to get everything cleaned up.

Except for those who are full timing or spending a season in their coach I don’t fully understand the importance of getting 100% access to every source of TV content.

Very good point Jon and basically it shows that this lifestyle has grown to the point where it attracts a wide variety of participants with various definitions of desirable bus travel.

With few exceptions we all have access to cable at an RV park, over the air local TV, usually satellite TV like Dish or Direct, and I am sure DVD’s. When we are in the bus I just cannot imagine having so much free time that we need all that content.

We live in a connected world and with modern coaches offering just about all the conveniences of home (including the kitchen sink), some users consider being connected as part of the luxury lifestyle.

We have never watched a movie in the bus because we just haven’t wanted to sit in one place for such a long time. I have slack adjusters to polish and a lot of other better things to do.

As I stated in another thread, based on the owners I’ve met, you can place us in two categories: Those who enter the Prevost lifestyle to get dirty and those who buy a Prevost to stay clean. While you prefer to polish slack adjusters, others may have different priorities.

As someone that has had to tolerate a mountain of abuse because I went with a no rivet slide coach all I can say is that how you use a coach makes all the difference in the world, especially with respect to slides.

Prior to getting slides we were rarely in one spot for any length of time, and if we were it was because we were only using the coach as a place to sleep such as when we did trade shows. Slides make no sense if we move often or if we used it mostly to sleep and have coffee in the morning.

But our use of the coach changed from that type of use to going to rallies or vacation venues where we were in one spot for days and we were not away from the coach all day, every day. Even though slides require some maintenance it is a price we are willing to pay because the extra room makes a serious difference in how we can move about the coach. The ironic part of the switch from a non-slide to a slide coach was the things we never expected but got with the bargain. The XLII compared to the XL is much quieter going down the road even though I expected more noise because of the slides. The windows are thermopane so the coach is much easier to keep warm and sitting near a window no longer means I feel the cold air spilling from the windows.

I do not like the extra weight. I do not like the loss of storage, especially in the height of the bays, I do not like the potential for a slide seal leak. But all of those objections are more than offset by how nice the extra room makes it easy to live in.

One idea is to simply find your starter and be certain the large bolt holding on the power supply to the starter is tight. Check all bolts on the starter particularly the main one. Do not touch the engine or any other metal with your wrench….. you will know why I said that if you do. Sometimes these bolts will back off and if so, it will appear dead.

Harry posted…..I also enjoy that NAPA discount. Jon and Tom thanks for working that out for us. It helps cut down on the exorbitant dues.

    Reprint from Harry’s post…… above

Harry, I think it was Truk4u who called me about getting on board with the AITA-NAPA parts discount appox 4-5 years ago.

As a former NAPA jobber in Dallas, TX. I knew many NAPA people in Atlanta who were involved with AITA We were able sell the powers that be that WE… use a lot of heavy duty truck parts in running our Prevost buses.

After a number of discussions several things were approved.

Use of the NAPA logo on the web site, ( that is a big perk gimme)

Processing of applications from the PC web site. Fill in the blanks…hit the button.

    Processing costs paid by NAPA

The last time I check nearly 700 cards had been issued. I believe many PC applications were approved off the web but the company name inserted was not PC but another business name. Probably double that 700 count.

As many members have learned your NAPA-AITA card is the real deal..you save money immediately at the counter on many parts.

Thanks, for all the NAPA support

Looked up my notes from 4/16 for you.

I have the Prevost spec for part number 98-0024 as 200 pound, ball studs 10mm, extended 26.3”, compressed 16,1”, and stroke 10.2”. These were a bit weak and bit short on stroke to open the bay door completely and unassisted. And I have nothing stored on the inside of the doors.

The strut that actually performs the task is Orr & Orr part number H9506-220 or Stabilus part number 753033. Use only composite ends, not metal. These are 220 pound, ball studs 10mm, extended 26.97”, compressed 15.16”, stroke 11.81”. These work perfectly and open the door to the end of its travel.

Part of this promotion was already in the Topic Prevost Press Release and Updates, so I moved the link there.

Cold tires when warmed will ad about 3 – 5 pounds of pressure in normal rational street driving. Maybe the pressures were just below the PP threshold when cold then warmed to above after 30 minutes of rolling resistance.

edit: Every fall as the ambient goes down, I have to ad a few pounds to all tires on the Porsche to stay out of the alert. But they are more sensitive due to their profile.

Ok Dick that makes things a little easier. Although you said nothing about hard or soft water, sparkling water, spring water, well water? Ok, ok I’ll figure it out but no thanks to your clear instructions!

I’ll do what you say though, it’s a good idea actually which begs the question… Where’d you get it?

Before Harry gets more confused here are some facts. His vintage coach has OTR so he has two pneumatic brass cylinders that provide belt tension to his OTR A/C compressor and his fan drive.

He has the same set up as far as regulator and valve to provide the correct tension and to release air so belts can be replaced.

But Harry isn’t helping us to help him because he is in the dark as to what we need to know to steer him in the right direction. For example, I think we all believe the hissing noise he hears is the air dryer cycling. He needs to verify that by being very specific about where he hears the noise, and to tell us if he is seeing his gauges on the air systems provide him with information about cycling, and if they are cycling on which circuits and how often.

Without some solid information anything we say can be misleading and wrong.

Regarding noise from the rear of the coach…….again Harry needs to get far more specific. Feeling around for an air leak may only work if it is within reach, and of such a volume it can actually be felt. I know from experience air leaking in an area such as around the engine bounces off of various surfaces to such an extent we have no clue where its origin is. This is where a stethoscope or leak detector aids in providing some clues.

If it relates to something other than brakes that means Harry needs to advise if he has an aux gauge and if he shows the accessory air cycling up or down. Accessory air leaks can come from many sources. Maybe it is important, maybe not.

Harry, do some digging and get specific and maybe we can help.

As to just running the engine……..I am not the expert but I believe we can do more damage over the long term by failing to get everything heat soaked such as we would do if we did a 30 to 50 mile run. It takes more than just idling in place to drive out moisture from the crankcase for example.

Hi Dick, The only time I’ve been plugged into 50 amp service was at Jeff’s. And no, I don’t have a surge protector.

Thank you one and all for your response, it is most appreciated!

the RV Fog doctor folks emailed me back. They will not work on Prevost bus windows due to the design,

back to square one. Where is a good place to get a single pane installed? IE: ditch the doubles and get a thicker single pane replacement?
