Here are pictures taken at the OKC 3 Amigo’s rally this past weekend.

Pictures of buses and I hope none were missed. Our parking sites were all over the park at Twin Fountains RV park.

The pot luck Mex feast was on Thursday night and was over the top with choices.

Friday at 11:30 am our invitation to the open house to tour a newly built oil rig Jerry Winchesters company just purchased.

State of art oil rig for $19 Million. This rig will be completely dis-mantled in 2 days and shipped to Ohio, on 72 trucks. A BBQ lunch was served

.After a short rest and maybe a nap by a few 6:00 pm off to Jerry Winchesters new airport hanger for cocktails and a BBQ dinner. His plane was not in the hanger as the annual inspection was being done at another shop.

On the fifth (5) picture back….. look inbetween the two (2) young ladies at the table there is a home made ice cream making machine. This was fired up and after some huffing and puffing produced a batch. This machine was hand built from parts and pieces by Jerry and his father.

Thanks to the 3 Amigo’s ….Truk4u…Jdub….and Mango Mike. Great fun and lots of good food.

One of the great things about PC and other sources on information on bus conversions is the variety of the advice given. The source material is often very good as I can always learn a better way, often here and a few other places, I glean some good information.

In the winter I do not hang it on the plug (all the time) for a number of reasons. One it presents a fire hazard (the possibility exists, even remote as it is, I feel it is still possible). Our inverter over-charged our batteries at one time, which proved to be an expensive proposition, so I no longer do it.

Batteries much like the woman I married, are of a fickle nature and require a lot of attention from time to time. I have had much more success using “battery tenders” for extended periods. They put out a 2amp charge and when the batteries reach their optimum temperature and charge, they simply stop charging and begin the maintaining process.

So here it is, for what it is worth.

What I do is kill all the power to the bus and its relative systems. At certain times during the storage periods, I will plug it in for several days at a time and allow it to recharge what the parasitic battery drains have pulled down, and then pull the plug. During extreme periods of cold, I put an electric heater in there with the batteries and alongside the water-pump to prevent freezing.

If you believe you can park one and leave it there, unplugged for any period of time without battery drain, then in my opinion, you are going to have problems. Hope this helps?

Seem to have struck a familiar chord with a lot of you, thank you for the replies. That is what makes all of this both interesting and informative, the comments. I did manage to get a shot of the offender for law enforcement, here it is.

    Not really.

Jon and his lovely wife, Di, showed up yesterday inbound for Three Amigo’s and we invited them to stop by so we could (as Jon is fond of saying) sniff out each other and look over the coaches. We found them a nice serene spot on the Oklahoma Landscape with a gentle slope and they are currently residing just outside of Eagles Nest.

Jon also shares the same sentiments about un-yeilding drivers and poor highway performance by the majority of drivers out there. It could be indicitive of the high numbers of immigrants in the country now, we have a very large percentage of our population that are “first time owners of automobiles” and this could be attributing to the lack of driving skills by a lot of the populace. At least that is my take on it.

Today he said he is going to show me even more buttons and switches, I heard a rumor that they even have an electric dog polisher, but I have seen it. I have not checked the official agenda at this time, but I do believe it entails the cooking of some dead-animals (barbecue) and lying about our respective fuel mileage.

    Will let you know.

    Thanks for your replies,

    BCO

(Oh yeah, thanks on the head’s up on the King of Bling. Now I know)

On three different vintage coaches I had three different locations for CBs and relays relating to the AC OTR system.

One was on the ceiling of a bay, and another had everything in a white plastic box in with the condenser motor. The point is you should give Prevost a call, or check with Pantera who has a lot of knowledge about your conversion.

But before I did that I would check the wiring to the coach chassis batteries. After I was sure it was correct, I would check it again. Just to be sure they did get it right. The OTR uses 24V and draws a big load so I would want to be sure it is correct from the starting point. Once you locate where the circuit breakers and relays are for the OTR then I suggest you check every one of them. It is entirely possible in hooking up the battery cabling wrong a circuit breaker tripped.

My generator always starts twice and the previous owner said it always did with him. I push the Country Coach start/stop button, the engine starts for a few seconds and then maybe a half minute later it starts and runs fine. I’ve dismissed this as normal.

I usually dump it the first thing when I get there … Because of transit most of the contents would be suspended in the fluid and washing around.

Then I close the valve, and just before I leave, I will dump it again, and give it a rinse.

Having no earthly idea as to whether this is right or wrong, I freely offer it up under the heading of “it works for me.”

At times our generator would require 2 starts. Have learned over the years to hold the start button for about 5-7 seconds after it starts and the generator will always stay running. Of course this is a Royale.

Not on this one I just re-did all the air system. Been all the way thru it! Hope never to repeat..Lines norgen, coils ,leveling valves, and airbags. I think 98 is first year it doesn’t dump tags when you hit level low. DKO said he dumps air on tags before leveling( Automatic?). I’m no Hector but did learn under fire. Bob

I opened up the canister and there was a 30 micron (red) installed. I ended up thinking that after 26 years, maybe I should just disassemble the unit and clean it. Here are photos of the job. I’m glad I did. It’s a Racor 1000FG turbine unit.

See all the gunk (in Nebraska we say crap) that was inside the turbine.

This is what it should look like.

Make sure all the turbine is clean by blowing it out.

Make sure the splash ball and gasket are in place before putting it back on.

Lube all rubber parts lightly before installing.

    Screw the turbin back on.

Wire brush the bolts and dip in oil before replacing the settling bowl.

It’s a job that I would haven’t thought of doing except for while changing the filter I drained all the diesel and happened to look down inside the canister, Glad I did.

It will take a couple of different grades of rouge and buffing wheels on a electric buffer. Takes know how to do it right and a lot of time. If you have some better auto body shops in your area, they may can help you.
