That doesn’t sound bad until you figure I’d have to drive from Melbourne to OKC 1350 miles (4 days) right by Orange Beach, then 850 miles (2 days) back to Orange Beach. Then another 550 miles back home. I’m not up to that much driving back-to-back! The problem isn’t as much the drive from OKC, as it is the drive to OKC.
Our plan (at this tme) is to make a 2-day trip to New Orleans, French Quarter RV Park for a couple of days, then backtrack a couple hunderd miles to Orange Beach the morning of the 30th. Then at the end of the PP rally, back home for a few weeks to fix stuff! 🙂

Having read this thread and others, is there great vale to having a boost guage? Looking in my original manual it showed the guage as optional. Needles to say I do not have one! Not knowing the expense to purchase one and the possible pain to install it, what are the benefits? Have owned the bus for just a year now and am getting more famillar every day with the unit. Just turned 100,000 miles and all seems to be good.

Glad to help. We stayed at the other place last year. Gravel roads and sites. It rained before we got there and while we were there and there was a lot of mud around. It would also be somewhat dusty if it was dry.
Hope you have a good time. We are going there the end of August for a Boston concert at the casino and then heading out to Yellowstone for a few days.

Untill I got my pressure pro from Tom and got rid of the inside drive valve extensions, I went thru 2 sets of tires in a very short time because the tires with the extensions would never stay aired up and checking the pressure didn’t work very well because when I would try to check the pressure the little plunger would bend and then I would have to put on a new one.
You have to make sure that when you mount your tires, all the valve stems have to line up directly in the center of one of the holes in the wheels. This is especially true with the inside drive tire.
You will also need tyo make the tool Tom has pictured to get the inner sensor off and on.
You will also need a straight air chuck to check the pressure on this tire because the normal one with the straight and angled head on them will not work.
Please get the Pressure Pro installed. It is well worth the money. A tire blowout can kill you or tear half the side of your coach off or kill someone else.

if you are still at higher altitude the puff of black smoke is common. The higher you are the more smoke. Our bus does the same but clears up when we get lower. The boost will not be as great at 9000 to10,000 feet. Not as much air. Watch the trucks and see that most puff a little smoke at each gear change in the mountains.

Here is a link to US Concealed Carry Reciprocity map. If you follow the steps and enter the states that you have a
resident license for and or any non-resident licenses it will give you a color coded printable map for the states that
your license or licenses cover you in. the reciprpcity tool is free. The US Concealed carry association offers a good
magazine and lots of relevant info. Insurance is also available at certain membership levels. You do not have to be a
member to use the reciprocity tool. The states that accept other states are the states that are accepted by other
states. Sort of an if you honor mine I will honor yours arrangement. Some states give you more coverage than
others. Some states honor resident licenses but not non-resident. Some states will give non-resident licenses
through the mail just by filling out an application and sending in the fee of course. Florida is a good example.
Put in your home state and check out your coverage. Then put in your home state and add a Florida non-resident
license and see what other states you get. I have heard that Utah is also a good state to have for travelers.

Thanks for the input.
Few things, safety is always number one with me. In the last 3 years I have dones 200k over the road towing at GVW, not one incident….but my gear is kept in top shape, and I drive 55….same as I intend to do in the Prevost.
I expect trailer to be 18k max and will abide by tongue weight guidelines. I have a lot of leeway in loading the trailer since it will be bikes, and most likely a really balanced spread axle trailer.
I know the Prevost cradle limits, just wondering about the hitch they put on.
I am pretty damn sure DKO or someone else who had Prevost do a cradle swap said it was 20k/2k….wonder if Prevost bumped it up 500lbs….
-
Your year? Not in your post. Prevost offers a engine cradle upgrade=higher towing capacity for some model coaches. DKO had his done. About $5,000. FWIW His is a mid 90’s XL. To be very blunt it’s not the reciever but will you break the prevost frame or be able to stop /control the toaded load. Bob

What is happening here………? Are we going to have a plastic versus stainless division among our members?

Personally, maintenance is critical, the paperwork supporting it not so much so. I know all you former pilots are going, is he nuts? Not everyone values keeping historical data, even though they may be very good at keeping their coach maintained. Regardless of paperwork or the fact that the coach has well maintained I still say the best maintenance records are the ones that come from the PDI.
Don’t get me wrong, past records are great. I’m just suggesting they shouldn’t be as big a deal as some make them out to be. Even records don’t tell everything. Was the shop or individual that did the work qualified and certified to do the work done. Again, these aren’t planes where certifications and documentation are critical and typically govered by some set of standards. If Billy Bob did all of his own maintenance and documents it are you better off than the owner that makes their annual pilgrimage to Prevost for their level 3 service and has everything fix that was found but never keeps a receipt? Maybe, maybe not. It’s possible that Billy Bob was a mechanical engineer and form Detroit/Allison, suspension engineer that decided to go it on his own. How do you know?
The great thing about buying a Royale, Country Coach, American or a few others is that you will likely get a great deal. There’s been so much uninformed bashing of orphan coaches that the prices have been driven down. Our coaches are complex, regardless of the converter, and its that complexity that had fearing an orphan. The fact of the matter is that most coaches have very little outside of cabinetery that was their own creation. Systems do become obsolete, regardless of who the converter is. When this happens it’s important to have an upgrade path to whatever will replace the obsolete widget or system.
The top two things I’d worry about on a 2002 coach, presumalbly a XL-II is delamination and any non-Crestron modifications that were done to the Crestron system. The one thing I would look closely at is repairablity. Some converters did a great job making their systems accessible others did not.

Tom, You could do like the moonshiners do around here, They have a door in the floor of the trunk that opens when needed, to spray burnt motor oil on the road, so when the “Fuzz ” is after them they will leave the road on the first curve, hard but its fair had a home and would not stay there! and as others say you could hook to the mazerator, does Marathon have them? if you do that then you would need to consume large amounts of croton oil to get the same effect of burnt oil, This is a holiday, so my brain takes off too! gary
