Always sumtin Harry. The fluid doesn‘t look the same but Mine leaked fluid (all under coach) a few years back and it was the power steering pump o ring on back and top of engine (over batteries to right and up) and had to replace o ring. Look above and on top of engine and see if leak is coming down engine. That is if it’s oily. Do you have valves on other side of engine with hoses running up? I would put paper down and watch for drip.

Harry did you say you to have to manually change from shore power to gen set with switch? On mine. It will always default to gen set even if plugged to shore power when gen set is started, automatically.

They (pyro’s) are handy to let you know what’s going on with engine for sure. Watch them rise and see temps on heat gauge follow shortly. Mine stay about the same on both banks. Seems like when I had the issue with blower seals one side was higher than other. Got mine into shop when I first noticed the problem (Oil blowing out check valve/vent tubes) and after they are back to normal. Both staying the same or close. Mine has never went above 900 degrees, then again there are not many tall hills around Central Texas.

A rebuilt 431 will have same location for freshwater loop unless John is opening the tank, inserting a 50 foot coil of half inch copper tubing including the two penetrations for the tubes and re-closing the tank, tons of work. Your coil should be around the outside of the tank covered in heat transfer mastic. The newer 600D heaters have the coil in the tank from the factory and use GRAS boiler fluid instead of antifreeze.

The fresh water coil has no restrictions to water flow including mixing valve. Low water flow is somewhere outside of the heater.

Plus, I had guy call me about no hot water from new heater who had connected the coach water lines to the heater reversed. You might check for that. Solved his problem for no hot water. He did have good flow though.

    Dave…

I would echo the previous thoughts about carrying a few tools and potential show stoppers like extra belts and fuel filters. I probably go a little overboard in the tools & spares area, but I’m of the opinion that I’d rather have something and not need it than need it and not have it.

We find it to be kind of a never ending process to determine what we carry on board, and to a very large degree it depends on how you, as a couple, want to live on the road. Going to cook meals in the coach or eat out all the time? We have friends of each persuasion. That may make a difference in what type and the number of changes of clothes you keep on board. As well as the size of your bale of BenjaminsBenjamins. We constantly review what we have and offload things we haven’t used for awhile. I would encourage you to start light and find out what you need as you go along. What we may recommend and use regularly, you may not use at all. You can always find places to add to you useful “stuff” once you actually experience the need

, laptop computers, etc. are really kinda personal calls, and depend on how much importance you place on staying “connected”. The GPS question is again a personal one. We have a Garmin Trucker unit that shares dash space with a Rand-Mcnally RV unit. But we learned many moons ago that no matter what you have, nothing beats the broader perspective an old fashioned state map can provide, so Karen does an excellent job of acting as a tie breaker if the 2 GPS units do not agree on routing. She’s a much better “naviguesser”, but much higher maintenance.

I review the basement about every quarter and try to eliminate what we haven’t used, but we still wind up with “stuff”. Jon was right on with the “less is best” comment.

We have been out for about 4 1/2 years now, and have no plans to hang up the keys in the foreseeable future. We look forward to meeting you guys “out there somewhere”.

This is just a general comment that might apply to all Jake brake equipped coaches.

Prevost has two terminals in the rear electric box that supply power to the Jake brake solenoid valves that are under the engine valve cover. There is a way to help isolate the problem when the Jake is not functioning or is only partially functioning.

The terminals are listed on the chart showing the electric box. If the engine is idling, and a jumper feeds power to each terminal one at a time you will hear the engine lug down. What you are doing is powering the solenoids directly and verifying they are doing what they are supposed to do.

If the engine does not lug down when power is applied to the Jake terminals then there could be a problem with the solenoids or the wiring to the solenoids. If the engine does respond by lugging down the reason the Jakes are not working is elsewhere. If a mechanic wants to change the solenoids in the engine without testing as described above he is just guessing and spending your money. BTW, the problem if it appears to be in the engine can be as simple as a disconnected terminal or broken wire.

    Charles,

You need to make sure the vehicle has a two-speed transfer case.

Our friends have towed their Tahoe for a while now, with no problem after removing the #38 fuse.

We had high hopes of going to the 2018 Traverse for our next tow car. We looked at a new one here in Las Vegas, and really liked it. Only one problem–it can not be towed. 2017 you can tow, not the new one. Apparently the new Buick–twin to the Traverse–also can’t be towed flat. They both have a 9-speed transmission, so I guess that is the reason. The one left in that family that can be towed is the GMC Acadia. It still has a six-speed, but we just lost two towable cars–selection is getting slimmer!
