As a full timer, USAA Progressive does not offer any kind of fulltimer insurance.

I took my coach to Wirco years ago. Dick is a great and helpful guy but had no interest in removing the genset from my coach. I had to go somewhere else in the area, have them remove it, put it on a pallet, put that in my van and take it to Wrico who used the exact same folk lift to remove it from my van. They did the repairs, put it back in my van and the other service company reinstalled it.

    Strange way to do business.

    Excellent catch!

As batteries age the plates become sulfated and they could be a large percentage less capable than new ones. Always get batteries in sets and with the same date codes.

I am sure if Mark says that is how the lights are mine operate with a delay in the brightness of low beams when coming from high beam. But I have never noticed the delay.

Maybe I am losing it and like Tom need to start driving something smaller.

    Nope, not going to happen.

I don’t see a H2O light but it might be there

Deep discharge does affect life cycles. Jon’s point about not hurting the Relion’s by deep discharging was correct as the BMS will protect the battery (disconnect) at 9.5 volts. This does not harm the battery, but does effect cycles if 100% discharged regularly. I’ve seen AGM’s not recover from just a few severe discharge cycles and the batteries are recycle material at that point. The smart battery with BMS takes care of that problem.

    Here’s a better graph for Lifepo4…

Just cautioning none of these are true drop in replacements. If they were then you wouldn’t have to change anything. There are also temperature issues as you cannot charge below freezing ( some have heaters on them to counter this. I believe relion might. ) but there are also low voltage and high voltage cutoffs to handle. Just various things that lithium has that other batteries don’t.

I was riding the fence, and the decision was more complex because Tom’s post about the Relion 330 AH 8D AGM batteries for less than Lifeline really added to the difficulty of Li making sense financially.

But I was not motivated by the economics. If I did a lot of dry camping, and if I was going to still have my coach for more than 10 years (maybe, but who wants to share the road with an 87 year old bus driver?) the the economics become a factor in favor of Li.

My bottom line is simple. I get almost 50% more power in reserve, I save 400 pounds, most of which comes off the steer axle, and once installed I never have to pull an entertainment center to get at or see my batteries. Even if I get half of the recharge cycles from the Li that are probable, I am still looking at a life of more than 25 years on them. It sounds like a big lie, but all indications are the way I use my batteries I should get 10,000 to 13,000 charge cycles compared to my AGM 1,000 cycles.

They will be changed out prior to Oysterfest if everything works out on some other work I am going to get done, but regardless I will start documenting everything I can and dedicate a thread to the process.

My decision is not likely to be the same decision others will make. It is not intended to provide bragging rights because my batteries are invisible in the sense I never have problems with them during my 5 years of ownership, they are there, they do what is expected and I get rid of them before they show signs of failing. I expect the same with the Li, except I know I can pull more power from them before I have to consider the generator. My AGM haven’t ever fallen below 50% SOC, and I never end the day of driving without having shore or generator power top off the charge through the inverters.

Now I expect to have one less time related replacement to worry or think about, while getting real benefits with a product I hope to never see again.

Fires caused by brakes are often operator error. Driver lets unit get Away on a downhill and keeps the brake pedal to the metal. Truckers do that and the trailer brakes burn the trailer. Electrical fires in many rv’s are common.

4″, that’s good because I already have one from my Monaco days.

The 5 phillips headed counter sunk bolts that hold the drum to the hub came out easily, and the drum came off the hub easily. But the axle is glued/siliconed to the hub and is being stubborn. So far I haven’t been able to break it loose. There are 3 threaded holes on the axle flange so I might have to borrow/rent a large slide hammer so as to get it loose. Or maybe heat, and/or a bigger hammer.

The brake linings are 0.68″ thick and in good shape. No gear oil on them. The drum is in good shape with an inside diameter of 14.535″. I think they start life new at 14.500″. There is a small 35″ ridge at the edge.

    Here are some pics

Can I enter the code from the bus? Will the gate open automatically from inside the lot?

It has been years since I was there last.

Added complexity on a Prevost Marathon, hydraulic as well as the air bladder slide seal. At least Vantare had wipe seals on their HWH slides.

If you do not dry camp, you will see little to no value in the Lion battery….

However Lion number you is set to discharge at constant voltage, vs all other from AGM, deep cycle etc…voltage is a constant change…So with Lion you will get much more true power…

With this you must also look at if you use gen auto start, then you will need to make a change here as well…we need gen to auto start at a different voltage or state of charge…

Inverters need to be something that the charge rate and settings for voltage can be adjusted…Not your old freedom 25 inverters

Lion batteries do not like freezing temps…therefore they need to have a way to be heated if in this environment…many ways to accomplish this…

With Lion you do have the potential to reduce number of batteries in the system and maintain the same or still larger capacity.

Standard engine alternators do not need to be changed with this type of battery…
