The Wurth Nut Buddy is fairly popular with our antique truck enthusiasts. We have one but have not had occasion to use it.

This conversation reminds me of my parent’s generation. They used to put a sheet or plastic slip covers over the sofa or the car seats. The entire time they owned whatever was covered it looked horrible but it protected the fabric. The only one that benefitted from the use of protective covers was the person that bought the used sofa or car from them.

Brake chambers and rubber brake lines and new Norgrens and ride height valves.With updated DOT compression fittings. Proper working Jake brake or transmission retarder. Tyron steer tire safety bands ( I hope i never have to test them ) And a good TPMS that has alerts. Also place new shocks when doing air bags.
Safe travels,

I’ve always liked the idea of the 3M product but I do know it only lasts about 5 years and costs about 1500 bucks to have it professionally taken off.

I had two previous coaches and used nothing. My current coach I have a bra that came with it and I use it about half the time. I am less concerned about chips and dings and more concerned about the effort to get the bugs off the front of the bus. I don’t bother cleaning bugs off the bra.
I like the coach to look nice, but I’m past the point where every little scratch and ding gets me excited. It’s 11 years old and is entitled to show a little wear and tear.

None of us knows how long anything on our coaches will last so the best we can hope for is that we maintain them according to a schedule and that we get a good service life as a result. I think we can all agree with proper maintenance we can expect decades of use from our drivetrain. But we also can expect some of the components we rely on will not go for decades before failure. Al’s photos are pretty clear in showing there are things we rely on that need our attention.
Every one of us is going to employ some risk versus reward analysis and we will range in our approach to maintenance from anal to devil-may-care. Except for some very simple things that cost nothing we can expect to spend some money to buy peace of mind. The simple things are things such as keeping tire pressures where they need to be and draining air tanks to insure there is no moisture and the check and protection valves are functioning. The not so simple or cheap things are changing tires or air bags.
Every now and then we will get a surprise. A relay could go bad, a switch may fail or a fitting may leak air. But almost all the time we get clues before something has a total failure. As owners we just have to be aware of all that is going on and I am confident if we try to deal with little problems quickly we are going to be far better off than if we let the small stuff go ignored or pile up.

During the initial parts of our search I had the same problem trying to confirm how long a coach was.
XL = 40′
XLV = 45′ (But I’ve seen coaches described as an XL when in fact it was 45′ long!)
Look at the pictures closely of “XL style/stainless steel coaches”. A 45′ coach will have TWO bay doors behind the tag axle. The 40′ XL will have only one bay door (the engine/radiator).

The cartridge used with the extended life coolant is a blank cartridge and therefore does not add any sca to the system….Yes valves should be open, I know of no negative effect of being closed with a blank cartridge in the system..

I have fed HJ so much manure he is raising prize veggies in his garden.
I found out with the folks on this forum we never have to tell the truth as long as we tell people what they want to hear. (My aplogies to all politicians if I have revealed your secret by accident)
