Thank you for the reply. I do not notice the surging in PERF mode at full throttle going up hill. And I do not notice it around town. Just at freeway speeds, particularly with PERF not selected, at less than full throttle.

I did a search for “tie rod dust boots” at the Summit Racing (just as an example) web site and found quite a few choices. To pick the ones that will work will require a little measuring on your part. They might be too small, but maybe not. I’ve included a link below. Summit Racing would be just one of many sources.

I replace the stationary side glass driver and passenager sides with single pane glass purchased from Micheal Moores House of rust. A lot of patients needed here. No more fogging issues.

Jon, completely agree that installing a new/rebuilt valve is the way to go if you are at home or at a Prevost service center.

But we could not find a relay valve anywhere in Lake Havasu. So I was glad to have the rebuild kit with me. It was a simple fix and we did not need to remove the valve nor all the air lines-the time-consuming part. Just removed the snap ring from the bottom of the valve and replaced the supply and exhaust pistons, O-rings and spring. No more leaks! There are two additional O-rings on top that require valve removal but those can wait until I get home.

Interestingly, none of the old O-rings or pistons showed lots of wear or contamination. But the new parts fixed the leak. Maybe the old spring was getting weak.

The cross reference for Prevost R12 #641088 is Bendix 103009X R-12. The repair kit Bendix 102802N will work for all Bendix R-12 and R-14 valves (There are three R-12s and one R-14 in my bus). They are cheap and good to have with you.

Shout-out to Bryan at Lowery’s Truck repair in Lake Havasu who scheduled us in at short notice.

id think that it would be financial suicide to try and retrofit a S60 to a 40′ 8×92 chassis. Not sure it has ever been done successfully. . There are reported cases of people putting in a Cummins. . but the series 60 essentially needs the XL to be successfully put in.

    Greg,

Yes I had mine rebuilt by a hydraulic shop in Nashville. Any hydraulic shop should be able to do it. Rebuild was a few hundred , replacement from Prevost Prevost was 15000. Change your PS filter and fluid while you are at it. I found that I had the original filter still in mine. I had paid to have it replaced 2 yrs prior and was charged for it. That must have fell through the cracks… at least I found it and got a fresh filter and new fluid in it. The old filter was very dirty and fluid was black. Which may have contributed to the ram failure ?

    Don,

All you need is a couple plugs or caps if it is going to be temporary. The mechanic plugged mine at the end of the hoses that go to the ram. PASS recommendation was to remove the hoses and plug at the steering gear box. And just as Peter said. There is little to no noticeable difference. I did feel a little more feedback from the steering wheel. Which tells me that it will act as a anti-shimy cylinder. That’s why I had mine rebuilt (Safety ) Now on a XLII with bigger tires and more front axle weight ? It might be a little harder to steer without the ram. And it has IFS , and I have a straight axle. You met Peter and was in his coach, was it a XL or a XLII ?

    From PASS,

The steering assist ram was added to the MH shells to try and make them easier to steer. They were NOT placed on the seated coach’s. he went on to say that when he was in the field years ago. There was a bulletin that came out instructing them to remove the ram.

    Thank You Peter Campbell, RIP

Bill, I never have or really care to get local channels, but one really valuable benefit of both Direct and Dish is I can get music through them and except for the day the receiver and antenna shook hands and worked for the first time that music has not been available.

    Karl,

Thanks for the update. We met you guys at the OKC rally. We celebrated our 25th anniversary this summer on a charter from Grenada to St. Vincent. I don’t think I could ever talk lauren into doing what you all are doing. I am trying to talk her into a year in remote off grid Alaskan house.

    Be safe!

    Bill
