Suspect we think now after re-reading could be fuel filter seal. The primary on our previous Beaver XL 40 8V92 powered bus had two rubber “O” rings. Trying to be neat to not drip fuel putting filter on, I didn’t see the inner rubber seal fell off. Presto, eventual loss of prime

Hi Greg, I tried the plan to use my on board water supply but they didn’t like it much. BTW Greg how’s that old bus of yours doing? One day when you have time on your hands how about posting a picture of that sweet looking bus of yours?

I went to the Grand Canyon in Oct. (stayed in Williams and used the train) and weather was not a factor, but with the elevation around Flagstaff it could be.

I have quite a few miles of driving our coaches in snow so I would have used I-40 all the way back home anyway. The only reason I took the southern route in March was the car tires shouldn’t be driven when temps are below 40F and definitely not in snow.

2 circuit boards in the house electric bay have 2 automotive fuses 2 and 4 amp. Of course almost all automotive fuses are odd number of amps. I didn’t want to chance a meltdown so I used 3 amps in both. The one requiring 4 amps blew immediately. I decided to take a chance so I put my last 3 amp in for the 2 amp and a 5 amp in for the 4 amp. It worked. Called Leon in Oregon and told him what I did and he said there would be no problem with the 1 amp increase to others fuses.

I spent about 5 hours on the phone with Leon and Dave at Marathon. They were a great help to say the least.

I’m back to smiling again. Thanks to everyone who responded with their suggestions.

    BA,

    Great example of FMCA’s benefits.

Unfortunately, over the last two years Cindy & I have not taken advantage of any of their rallies due to other obligations.

But maybe before dropping our FMCA membership in 2019, we should attend an FMCA rally, for the benefits you mentioned. Just need to find the time …

I always enjoy reading and learning from the wealth of knowledge on this forum. I rarely have much to offer as so many of you have years of experience. As I read this post, I think I have something that none of you have had happen so I will share it. I always get an aerial view of anyplace we are headed. On this particular day we were headed to our concert at a county fair in Indiana and it didn’t look like the path to the stage was paved all the way. Knowing it had rained earlier in the week, I checked with the lions club member at the gate who said it wasn’t a problem. Wrong! I turned the last corner and the bus just sank. When I walked to the lions club member and he asked what I needed, I told him the largest four wheel drive tractor they had. None were available so they spent the next 1/2 hour trying with two wheel drive tractors and even two at a time. My wife commented that our bus had become a tractor pull.

The guys then were excited to report they had it figured out. In front of a crowd of 200-300 people who had lined both sides of our bus for a long way, an early 1900 steam tractor smoked it’s way in front of our bus. Many believed the weight of this machine would do the job. Despite the confidence of many, my head was shaking as this failed as well. Finally, a local farmer with a huge caterpillar tractor with tracks pulled us to the stage. With a police escort, we had to drive right down the mid way after the show to stay on the pavement. Other than a muddy mess, we had no damage.

An automatic transmission in a car to me would be as unappealing as asking a professional photographer to do his work with a point and shoot camera.

If you do not understand how strongly I feel about automatic transmissions it is apparent we cannot communicate. Driving is more than pushing down on a pedal or turning on the electric. I am stuck with an automatic on the bus. Not my choice.

I not only would not buy a battery powered bus I am opposed to most of the technology the converters jam into the buses which do things in a vastly more complex manner than devices like an old fashioned on-off switch.

But there is a place for technology such as the multiplex systems and the behind the scenes systems that allow huge amounts of horsepower from very limited displacement engines that not only have abundant power, but are delivering it smoothly.

Yes the front of my car is low, but so is the entire car. It does not seem any lower than my 2007 and just like the bus I have to be aware of things like steep driveway entrances or high speed bumps that can scrape the bottom.

My guess is, since our old beast don’t have ABS, they don’t want the rear tires/brakes locking up when the streets are slick(rain, etc).

Have you weighed your coach? Most truck stops have CAT scales. I’ve weighed mine.
My Tag = 8,880 Lbs, its max cap = 12,000 Lbs.
My Steer = 13,120 Lbs., its max cap = 14,600 Lbs.
My Drive = 19,000 Lbs, its max cap = 20,400 Lbs.
    My Total = 41,000 Lbs, max cap(GVWR) = 47,000 Lbs,
plus I can tow another 10,000 Lbs giving my bus a “combined gross wt rating” of 57,000 Lbs.

On four other tag axle MHs(SOB) that I’ve owned, I was able to easily adjust how much wt the tag axle supported with a adj regulator in the engine compartment. I set it and forgot about it. Two of the four MHs had ABS but not on the tag axle brakes.

Prevost I’m sure had a good reason.

My line of defence for breakdowns is as follows. Maintenance, crawling around my coach trying to get to know it, paying attention to sounds that are normal so that I recognize abnormal sounds, Reading Prevost Community, JEFF ROWE, posting on Prevost Community, calling other bus owners and drivers and way down the list as a backstop, if you will, Good Sam Towing.

Many of you have pulled my fat out of the fire on various occasions and I thank God for every one of you.

I’ve had a right to carry way before it was fashionable to do so and I’m happy to say I’ve never had to pull it much less use it. Like others have said, you have to be aware and don’t go places and/or do things that attract attention. Like waking out of a store counting money, or talking and gawking and not paying attention. More than once I’ve chosen a different exit from a grocery store based on what I saw outside. I’ll take a few more steps to eliminate a potential problem anytime!

I will always try humor first and if that doesn’t work I revert to Ranger training and third with a gun. I guess its been three years now when my wife and I were visiting my our daughter in Tamps. We were walking up to our favorite Mexican restaurant when two guys came out, noticed I was wearing an NRA hat and nocked it off my head along with some interesting language. I don’t know what made me madder, nocking the hat off my head or subjecting my daughter and grandkids to the violence and language of the act? It was not a gun issue and as stated earlier, there are different ways to handle different situations. He did pick up the hat however!

A gun and knowing how to use it along with a working knowledge of the laws of the land all help in using self protection that can work for all of us!

    Just my thoughts,

    Harry
