When he went through the coach, he made it a point to tell me that the original Liberty installed battery charger was a “boat anchor”, I should use it ONLY to charge dead batteries, and that if I left it “on” for any length of time it would destroy our new batteries. Needless to say I heeded his advice. The vintage battery charger is NO long in the coach and sits on a shelf in the garage.
Back in the day (1990’s) these now boat anchors were likely state of the art chargers. Massive, probably put out tons of 24volt amps. Perfect for a converter to install on the ceiling of the curb side engine bay above the coach batteries to recharge coach batteries after the coach owner left the coach key “on” after parking the bus. Great idea by the converters.
But they were “dumb” chargers. They were apparently “ON” full blast when they were plugged into 120volt and would blast the batteries.
Now we have “smart chargers” like that Mariner/Guest chargers that have been recommended on this web site that have (I think) three different levels of charging and senses the level of charging that the batteries need at any given time.
If the owner of an older coach with an old technology chassis battery charger were to ask my opinion about what they should do with their old technology charger … my advance would be simple: (1) get that boat anchor out of your coach and (2) install a modern Guest/Mariner smart charger (or equivalent).

He was here 4 hrs with his motley helper and I felt neither was fully competent to to do the job. They had no battery tester to load the batteries, so I called someone else to do that test @ $85 for the service call and 1 hr. labor so $200 and 15 mins later the batteries were deemed bad. I had another camper take me to Napa where that guy only had 2 batteries and one of those tested bad right off the shelf. Finally went to O’Reilly got the 4 batteries and now I’m happy…I think I’ll have a drink of Blanton’s and call it a night….

I know this coach. Well maintained. Would not have reservations recommending it.

You do know that your tires are rated for 75 mph max speed, right? Wouldn’t want you to wind up blowing one out and ruining that nice bus….

Our vintage has just one of these fans in bay 2L (electrical bay). It runs 24/7/52 and doesn’t mind. During my ownership, one finally quite. Bought three more (spares) at about twelve dollars each. The point is, if they run all the time it is probably ok. But I understand if your accustomed to them shutting off and now they don’t.

Everyone needs to understand that all Prevost drawings and diagrams are of unmodified coach shells. They will not include anything added or modified by the converter.
The importance of understanding that cannot be overstated because the house systems where they connect to the chassis systems should be limited to the points Prevost provided for air or direct current electric. Other than those points the house should be completely isolated from the chassis. Some conversions had other interfaces and in the case of those conversions the responsibility for repairs or maintenance gets a little fuzzy because it gets much more difficult to isolate and deal with issues.

Tom, our bus was built so long ago that Liberty used a higher quality special poison coating in our single tank as we have not had any bugs – yet. Animal rights activists probably poopood that stuff.
Re a path for the bugs to enter the living area, I once forgot to drain the tank causing it to back up through the shower floor drain. Maybe that is the bug path, don’t know if there is a P trap there.

Walt,
Glad it was something easy and just “user error”. The only reason I know this, is because I did the same thing over Christmas this year. We travel at ungodly hours. Like leaving a campground at 3-4am. If I can’t sleep, I might as well be driving. At 3am, I totally forgot to get to ride height before pulling in Front Slide. Panic attack.. Then I calmed down, had a cup of coffee and thought thru the issue. -
I believe most of these buses are not owned by the Secret Service. There is a company out of Texas called Premiere Transportation that leases there buses to canidates or politically famous people for their book tours and elections.
Even on their website they advertise who they lease to.

Pity he wasn’t running his campaign as well. 🙂

While I certainly would never challenge Jon when it comes to anything related to technology, I’m going to side with Tom & Bill. I’ve changed to Chrome, changled my settings as Diane suggests, but from time to time (notice time to time) the problem continues.
But the problem isn’t unique to the PC website. From time to time it has happened on other websites. Another forum I frequently contribute to uses vBulletin and I’ve experience slow typing once in while. My worst experience with slow typing is on the comment dialog boxes of the online version of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
I suspect its a combination of things interacting together to manifest the problem.

Larry, since there is no way to avoid rough roads around LA, my advice is to take the shortest route through and get it over with. Bernie is right that the Grapevine is jacked up in places due to a mudslide in November, but it is not too bad southbound. I just ran the route last week and it was not good, but OK. US 395 and I 15 have bad spots also, plus 395 is just 2 lanes for a long way and I15 has the largest population of stupid drivers I’ve ever encountered. If it was me, I would stay on the 5, and take the 405 through LA. The 405 is congested, but the road is in good condition for most of the run. As you know, it connects back into the 5 in Orange County.
