Squeak
Posted by Dean on January 14, 2016 at 9:19 amMy two operating windows in the salon will squeak while going down the road. If you open the latch and then re-latch the window it will stop squeaking for awhile and then start up again. I have to assume it’s the glass rubbing against the seal. What can I put on the seal to stop the squeak?

We had the Driver Side window squeak. We bought some weather stripping and applied it to the bottom of the window. Solved the problem. It does make closing the latch slightly harder to close but the squeak is gone!

There are small steel balls that are in the latch. I would take wild guess they are missing. You must be very careful closing and opening as those balls pop out if latch moves past position.
Second place screens . Use the small felt dots to cushion the screen against frame.
Third place rubber seal around frame allows frame to hit piston linkage.

Heidi is convinced it’s the latch. Putting pressure on the latch will stop the squeaking. I know it’s not the screens because I took them out and put them in the basement for one trip and they still sneaked. Thanks for the suggestions.

Same here, Dean. It drives me crazy and Natalie can’t hear it. If you come up with a solution please post. I’d gladly change out the latch if that’s possible.
BTW, I find it’s worse when cold and when the road is rough.

Dear sluggos,
Listen to Heidi and Natalie as they are correct.
It’s the latch steel ball, it’s missing. Disappears when someone forces the latch handle to far causing the steel ball to come out. I found mine laying in a corner of the window frame.
Use grease to hold ball in place after taking latch apart. Some old time hardware stores have steel balls. To determine size measure slot width.

I couldn’t find any ball bearing in our latch nor could I figure out where one would go. I did libricste the Windows seals with silicone lubricant and driving back to Ft. Myers from Tampa, No Squeaks!!! Quiet smooth ride. Awesome!
