Pressure Pro Pulse – TPMS
I’ve been getting some questions about the Pulse Monitor and the temperature capabilities. The tire temperature alert can be adjusted by the user. Here’s the page from the manual:
ALERT SETTINGS
*Note: All alert settings are vehicle specific settings. You will need to se the vehicle after sel ’ing the parameter to be adjusted. rro to the vehicle you wish to adjust and .
LOW and HIGH PRESSURE: MENU → VEHICLE SETTINGS → ALERT SETTINGS → LOW PRESSURE or HIGH PRESSURE → Use arro to adjust percentage of reference pressure for alarm triggering → Use the SE button to save the new alarm setting. *NOTE: Low Pressure has two alarm settings. The extremely low pressure (adjustable) & slightly low pressure (calculated at 5/8ths of the extreme; toggled on/off). LOW & HIGH PRESSURE alarms are factory set at 25%, with slightly low pressure toggled on.
ACROSS AXLE %: MENU → VEHICLE SETTINGS → ALERT SETTINGS → ACROSS AXLE % → Use arro to adjust the percentage deviation per axle allowable. *NOTE: Across Axle % is factory set at 20%.
HIGH TEMPERATURE: MENU → VEHICLE SETTINGS → ALERT SETTINGS → HIGH TEMPERATURE → Use rrow to adjust the High Temperature Alert. *NOTE: High Temperature alarm is factory set to 200°F.
LEAK DETECTION: MENU → VEHICLE SETTINGS → ALET SETTINGS → LEAK DETECTION → Use arro to adjust the percentage deviation → Use arro to adjust the time limit for deviation. *NOTE: Leak Detection is factory set as OFF.

I placed my order today with Tom, for the new Pressure Pro Pulse!
I couldn’t tell you how many times I have stopped, just to check tires and temps. Hopefully, I won’t have to stop for that anymore, unless I just want to.

For many of us with the original Pressure Pro, explain the upgrade options ? Can we use existing tire units and repeater and just change to this monitor or does it require purchasing entire new system?

Pressure Pro Pulse
I have had this system on my bus since January of this year. I have around 10,000 miles on the system. I would not get too excited about the temperature reporting feature. It reports in 40 degree increments. So I have seen 30°, 70°, 110°, and 150°.
That’s probably close enough, but I always wonder when it tells me the temp is 110°, how close to 110° is it? Is the true temp 75°, 80°, 90°, 100°, 120°, 130°, 140° ? When does the temp displayed actually change? My guess is that the change happens half way between the displayed values. So when 110° is displayed, my guess is that I am actually somewhere between 90° and 130°.
The other option is that 70° is displayed until you reach 110° and so on. So a displayed value of 70° is anywhere from 70° to 109°.

Brady – Your sensors and repeater will work with the Pulse.
Michael – I’ve asked Pressure Pro for details regarding the temp spread. Even if the spread is 30 – 40 degree’s, it seems a trend in temperature increase would warn of a problem. What setting did you do for the temp alert?
I’ve ordered a Pulse myself to replace my standard display, mainly for the temp function. With the standard display, the warning is at about 200 degree’s.
Any other Pulse users out there that could comment on the temp function?

So the temperature readings are not incremented by single digits? Just 10 degree increments?

Tom: Seems to me the PressurePro temp increments on our Silverleaf in the Foretravel and the Pulse on the XLII were/are 40 degrees. Starts out at 60 and the highest either one had/has gone in 100 degrees. Trending up as the tires heat up while driving but, so far, not over 100. A good thing. Both systems at factory settings.

I heard back from my Distributor and here’s his comments regarding the temps:
Tom,
The Pulse will display in increments of temperature. This is not because of the display, but the capabilities of the sensors themselves. Sensor technology just doesn’t allow them to be accurate to every degree and maintain a size/cost that is attractive, so there has to be some compromise. The sensors send a “packet” of data every 7 seconds which includes pressure, temperature and diagnostic information and that information packet has to be be within limits of radio signal capability from a sensor that is small enough to go on a valve stem. There are some other non-USA made systems that will claim to read every degree, but they don’t actually, they are using temp/pressure laws to extrapolate the temperature so the difference is that PressurePro presents the information as accurately as technology allows where other companies use extrapolated data to “fudge” the readings to make them appear more accurate than they really are. Same results in the end basically, it’s just how you look at the presentation of data.
Our sensors are sending temperature in increments of 40 degrees which is pretty standard. As mentioned, any system showing every degree is extrapolating that data from pressure anyway, not true temperature. The breakdown is as follows:
70 degrees – 70 – 109
110 degrees – 110-149
150 degrees – 150 – 189
There is a high temperature alarm at 194 degrees which will alert to high temperature.
My understanding is that at some point, the electronics will allow the temperatures to report in 20 degree increments.
In the meantime, we have thousands of tractor/trailers, heavy equipment and RVS on the road now with the Pulse and everyone is extremely happy with the capabilities.
I wanted to add that one of the features of the Pulse is the cross axle differential alerts which would be important also. That information will tell you when there is a differential in pressure/temperature across an axle. If one tire is different in pressure/temperature readings from the other three on a dual tire axle or if the two tires on a regular axle see differences, you will be alerted. This should help in the case of the tag brake problem as you will be alerted if there is a difference between pressure/temperature cross the axle. The alert % difference can be set by the user.

The important thing with temps is not so much the actual temp as the differential. Geo.

When my tires are replaced I am getting the Pulse. I was very happy to see the temperature is not derived from an actual temperature reading, because a sensor located on a dead end tube (the valve stem) cannot “read” a temperature several inches away and internal to the tire, while the sensor is in open air getting cooled as the tire rotates.
So I now get it. By using an algorithm Pressure Pro is probably measuring the ambient temperature and comparing the tire pressure to what it should be under that ambient and it is seemingly coming up with the internal pressure.

I ordered my Pluse system from Tom and got in in 3 days. I will be installing in next and will let everyone know how well it works.

Does anyone else worry about knowing how well our safety devices or warning systems work before we really need them to work?
We all have a lot of these devices on our coaches ranging from a simple circuit breaker to our surge protectors to our engine fire alarms to our CO detectors to the tire pressure sensing systems. I wish we had some safe and simple way to periodically do a systems check on these.

The Pulse doesn’t have a suction cup mount, but my Distributor says he’s had customers use something like this:
When Jeff does them, he’s able to build them into the dash for a more custom look.
For you guys already using the Pulse, how about some pictures of your mounting…
