The dates don’t work or us, but if things on our end change, I’ll let you know. We would really like to spend more time in that area, and it sounds like a really good party in the making…

I think those dates may very well work for us too!
Of course, like most, we’ll know more as the time gets closer.
Maybe I missed it, but if there is a ‘commitment’ deadline, I will follow it and will let the group know for sure.

In keeping with the encouragement of Jon & Truk… I am “promoting” the forthcoming non rally- rally to be held May 17th through the 21st at the Catherine’s Landing RV Resort nestled within the Quachita Mountains of Southwestern Arkansas adjacent and immediately South of and a part of Hot Springs, Arkansas.
The RV park itself consists of an original 400 acre tract located on the banks of a Quachita River tributary. There are 20 large “back-in-sites” that all back up to the river and provide a memorable vista of nature’s beauty…. the water, the wooded hills across the river and the natural geese and duck populations that have made the area famous….. all are evident… Each site is literally within 50 feet of the water.
We have reserved all 20 sites on a first come / first serve basis on the river …
Now to the fun:
Since there are not supposed to be any planned processes, procedures, organizational structures or “elections”… that would violate the spirit of a non rally rally… there will be available “alternatives” for the genre to consider. This list will grow as time allows and more events will become known that will be held during the May time frame.
The weather, based on this year… should be in the 55 to 78 degree range… let’s hope so…
1.) A professional guide has been engaged to come to the park on the first day to talk to any who would like to consider trying their luck at fishing with a professional guide…. he will explain the concepts and demonstrate how the “pros” make their secret “jigs” and will meet any one interested in joining in the fun… the area is truly reknown for its fishing…
2.) The Garvin Woodlands Gardens will be in full swing and anyone taking the time to actually visit these gardens will be truly, truly impressed. These gardens, now owned by the University of Arkansas have a stated mission of educating the public and of executing research benefiting the agricultural community. I am particularly impressed with the architecture and construction techniques used to develop the property. It is a memorable place.
3.) The lakes around Hot Springs are huge and their natural beauty unforgettable. Combine these with the moderate hill “passes” through the woods that one can easily drive, and you have a great outing in the making…
4.) If everyone agrees, we will plan an evening at the FIsherman’s Wharf located on one of the lakes… the restaurant is built out over the water and the food is good… Another date might be reserved for a very casual evening at the Blue Monkey Grill… don’t ask me… I didn’t name it.
5.) If we have enough coaches, we will bring the “big pit” … that is fun alone… we will cook up some briskets.. or, if we do not do that, Betty and I will bring our ski boat and would hope to take those interested out for a ride …
6.) Other events will be highlighted as they become available through the Spring…
7.) As we move forward, there will be those who may have ideas to share… that is what will make this special…
This does not in any way bind him to this but Jeff Rowe has kindly responded to my request of him that he consider bringing along his talents and providing pre-arranged services for those interested. In fairness to Jeff, this will depend on the number of coaches present. We will keep you posted.
The costs for the park are $60 per night with deductions from that charge based on Good Sam, AAA and military.
The pavilions have a charge ranging from $60 to $90 for hosting larger meetings… we can work towards settling these among the attendees as the event approaches…
Let’s try to get our indications in within a reasonable time period… realizing this is in May… we have a long way to go…

The time has come to begin finalizing the “non-rally rally” at Catherine’s Landing in Hot Springs Arkansas. We are going to have a great time….
This week-end, Betty and I are making a quick 400 mile run from Houston to the RV Resort and will discuss with their management in detail some of the activities we might enjoy… we promise to sample each restaurant completely and file a report for your consideration. We might have to check some of the restaurants twice to be certain of our opinions….someone has to do it…
Please review one of the preceding lengthy comments in this thread that sets forth several of the potential activities. THE FISHING AT THIS TIME IS THE BEST OF THE YEAR and we need to make reservations… they really get booked… if you plan to fish, an out of state license is required. We will provide the process to obtain it after we return next week. In addition, we will team up in fours for expense sake…
The picture below shows the resort. We have reserved all of the spaces along the river that are hidden along the tree line… it is a great place and beautiful. The coaches literally sit within 50 feet of the water. Beautiful… The resort is located right on the Southern border of activity of the city… it is not as remote as it might appear…

Last week, as promised, Betty and I spent a few days at
Catherine’s Landing RV Park on the Quachita River in Hot Springs, Ark. We
visited several restaurants and revisited some of the tourist attractions that
might appeal to everyone. Realizing this is intended not to be highly organized,
we still sought to be able to provide information for all attendees. Those who
have been there before do not need to be sold….Please reference the picture in the preceding thread
showing the beauty of this place. We have reserved the river sites for our
group but must get them individually spoken for in a fairly-short period because
this place is popular and the river sites are beautiful.So far:
Garvin Gardens:
University of Arkansas School of ArchitectureBetty went back to the Garvin Gardens to seek to have a
docent available for a group tour. These gardens are wonderful and display 210 acres
of a superbly created and maintained botanical property.From their brochure:

As you know, the hot springs are basically natural and from
the earlier years of our nation on through today, people travel far and wide to
experience the delights of these “healing waters.” There is a complete line of
hotels built many years ago that speak to these events of our past and they are
active today and well worth the effort to see and enjoy. Search for them online….. they tell a great story you might wish to experience…Potential seminars:
Anyone with any ideas is asked
to contribute their thoughts…We could have some great ideas
from “bus conversations” to any other types of interests…Many of you have excellent
talents and interests…As strange as this sounds,
would anyone have an interest in a meat seminar? Have you ever wondered what is
the exact difference between a Prime steak at one store / restaurant and a
Prime steak at another? What is the difference between USDA Prime and Choice
versus Select? What makes a Prime steak not a Prime steak for the most
discerning establishments… If there is interest, I have thought about bringing
brochures, etc. on the subject and some examples of the various cuts of meat. I
know that many of the attendees will have their own opinions and thoughts… I
would enjoy hearing them…If we have a cook-out one
night, if everyone agrees, I will impose on our dear friends who own the Taste of
Texas Restaurant and ask them to provide us with a supply of rib eye steaks at
their costs. They are the largest purchaser of Golden Black Angus Prime “Prime” in the
United States… I attend their cooking school …you will not believe the
requirements they have for beef selection…Please….any thoughts for

Go on a diet before you come because we have several of the
finest places to enjoy meals we have ever encountered. I hope the following
does them justice. There will be more…a.) The Bleu Monkey Grill:
We met Joey Gaydon, co- owner and manager of
the establishment and we followed his guidance on the suggested items to be
considered. We did our best to try the foods on your behalf….Someone had to do
it.The Blew Monkey Shrimpis one of the finest dishes I have ever tasted. It has a “bite” to it and is
served with the shrimps in a sauce floating around a cup of rice…. signature
dish….to die for.Signature dish #2 is the the Napa
Chicken…. two lightly sauteed chicken breasts with a layer of spinach and chesses
between covered with a glaze that is totally memorable. Served with an
assortment of excellent veggie’s…(Had that one twice)The recommended appetizer is the Texana
Roll. This is fixed like a won ton roll but is filled with chicken,
corn, black beans and herbs…. served with a dipping sauce….and it was delicious… chicken served in a pasta type of setting with a great
sauce….For the whole hearted attack on the
gastric system… the Fried Chicken surrounding a mountain of mashed potatoes
topped off with a “biscuit” all covered with gravy.. will do the trick…. it
would also send me to the hospital…. but the trip would be worth it….b.) Fisherman’s Wharf on lake Hamilton:

Arkansas? Yessir!This establishment has the traditional sea
food and the setting is a lot of fun because the restaurant is built out over
the water. Boats going by and ducks and geese abound….They can accommodate us as a group and the
crab-stuffed flounder should be considered.Great place…. recommended by many people…. Been
there done that….c.) Whiskers:
Now this one will be unexpected… It is
about six miles from the RV park on Malvern avenue which is the road used by
many as they travel from Highway 30 to the park. This is a newly constructed place
built by a man who has been in the restaurant business many years. Darius Jr is
the present proprietor… says he looks forward to meeting our group…They serve all types of Po’ Boys, shrimp,
oysters, hamburgers, etc…Their specialty, however is smoked “Ribs”… and they are excellent…. For someone who has cooked Bar B Q for over 40 years to
say they are great….. I certainly hope you agree..d.) The English Muffin
This place is located on the lake on
Highway 7 at the first crossover bridge. They serve 15 types of English Muffins
fixed any way you want them served as a part of a breakfast menu.Unfortunately, Betty and I can recommend the
Eggs Benedict made with the Cinnamon Raisin muffins…. Remember you got it here first….Well.. that is it for now…. I may not be very good at
promoting but we are doing our best….Please see if your schedule will allow you to attend and let
Catherine’s Landing RV Park know you are a part of the Prevost group….. and

I realize everyone is focused on the Bella Terra Oysterfest because it is such a fine event. It will be a lot of fun.
The following event at Catherine’s Landing RV Resort in Hot Springs is on May 17th through 21st. and we received some news yesterday that is surprising.
We already have 11 coaches signed up for the event. ….I did not know that and think that is a great start !!!.
We have a total of 25 slots on the river that must be spoken for over the next twenty days or they will be unblocked and reserved by other patrons. It is a very popular resort and these are the prime locations.
Since it does not compete with the Bella Terra event… I hope everyone will go ahead and consider the invitation to come to Hot Springs. Please review the previous comments on this thread as to potential activities. Check out the fishing guide and the liscensing requirements in those threads. We will work on the tour of the Gardens, etc.
Betty and I took this on as a fun project to help set up and are totally open to guidance. The plan, as we get closer, will be to come up with a decent organizational structure that is non binding. If we can plan the outdoor cook out, etc., we will divvy up costs as they occur… they will be nominal… and as I understand, Jon may have some iideas as to some support from those who might be interested in doing so
… perhaps he might give me a call.

Realizing the Bella Terra event is in full preparation…
The Catherine’s Landing event in Hot Springs, Ark to be held May 17th – 21st is also making good head way…
We already have 12 coaches signed up representing California, Florida, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas and Texas…. and two we may have to keep separated depending on the outcome of the NCAA tournament ….those two being North Carolina and South Carolina…. both of whom are in the Final Four.. … what a deal… The War between the States continues…. believe me on that one…
The RV park has granted us until April 10th for reservations to be guaranteed on the river…
Hope you can make the opening Margherita evening event….. to kick off the few days together…

We are booked at Catherine’s Landing May 17th- 21st leaving on the 22nd.
We’re in site #111. (this will be our first visit to this Resort, we have a water-front site).
