My point of view on a membership directory. I love owning and driving antique / classic
cars. Several years ago, my family and I
drove our 1952 Hudson Hornet everywhere (Ohio to FLA) – with a printed car club
directory in the glove compartment.
Several times on our journey, we used the directory to contact a member
that could offer us help (repair ideas or restaurant suggestions). The membership directory bonded us together
as a group and made our travels a richer experience. A PC membership directory would better bond us, and
I would definitely like to be in it, and am willing to endure the possibility of
an annoying sales call or two if it means connecting with a PC member that
needs help, wants free use of my 50 amp or just wants to know the best BBQ in
Greenville. I also think having a large
picture of other members’ coaches would be great – I see so many on the highway
/ rest stops, would love to know who I just passed.

And who exactly is going to pull this information together and control its distribution?

Last time I checked we had more than 36,000 posts. The information described is likely available to anyone that chooses to harvest that information after logging in.

In our member registry I can tell you all that we do not list the coach or information about the coach. We do have email addresses but we do not know if the names of members are real names. I am not trying to be evasive, but some Prevost owners or enthusiasts do not want themselves known.

I clearly understand how knowing from a directory all owners of similar coaches can be a huge benefit, but if it is important to you you can get that information right now based on posts from people with a similar coach. If folks do not list their coach in the signature line they either don’t have one, or don’t want others to know what they have.

But thinking pessimistically if someone created a directory that was sortable, such as by state, by converter, by model year, etc. and it fell into the hands of someone who could use it for business purposes your every meal would be ruined by telemarketers who will start out by saying “I see you have a 1999 Liberty, and I just got in a 2005 Liberty that I know you would be interested in……….”
