Started the solar project fit 18 100w panels and will add a 2nd row later for 3600w total. Interestingly enough I found out i have 6 AC units and not 5 as well as I had a 3rd girard awning (back drivers side) that was screwed shut. Ended up removing the fabric and motor for that awning as I don’t think I’d ever use it anyways. We mounted them to the girard awning casings using door hinges. The plan is to run very long screws through the AC coverings so we don’t need to drill holes in the roof.

Down the road we’ll be screwing the solar panels in for now then will work on adding linear actuators and some solar tracker so I can optimize output. Then adding a 2nd row, the other row will be arched so it doesn’t hit the AC unit.

Completed annual maintenance this weekend oil change and filters on both engine and generator. Chassis lube and drained all three air tanks and changed the dessicant filter cartridge in the air dryer. Had a very small amount of water in the wet tank and no moisture in the primary or the auxiliary tanks. The air dryer had some moisture not to much (pics below). A little tough to get to but fortunately the dessicant has been changed previously because it was fairly easy to disassemble.

I have taken it easy the last few weeks, was a tad burned out of working on the bus.

I did adjust my brakes, I found out one slack adjuster that wont work right and I will need to replace it. The other 5 slacks are working great. I also confirmed my tag axle will lift, it would not work previously.

I am re energized to get back to work on the bus in a push to have it done by the end of the month.

Today I am in Valemount BC and tomorrow I will be in lake Louise Albert. We are blowing out the cobwebs of our bus heading to Nova Scotia. If anyone is in the area let me know and we can get together.

Saturday, chased my tail all day trying to get my water system to work right. Currently pending a replacement valve.

    Sunday

    1. New bathroom fan cover, the old one that I replaced 5 months ago in a wind storm had the plastic break that allows it to slide. Pretty bad design as only side is held tight and the other side with out the slide on it has some wiggle room. The wind storm did blow over 2 of my trees. Hope I dont have any more issues on this.

    2. Fan gear box was drained and 28oz of fluid replaced.

    3. Ordered new slack adjuster as I have one not working. Hope to have that installed and my brake system project completed. I do not have any big air leaks in the air system. I put air into the system and checked all lines for bubbles with spray and they were all good. It only dropped 50 psi over the course of 7 days.

    4. Greased all the non brake fittings on the bus.

    5. Checked fitment of fridge and it fits in the hole, need to fix water to test the fridge water to bus connection prior to installing fridge.

    6. I have an air leak on the airbag, I will fix that this week.

    7. HVAC person replaced the 2nd bad valve in one of my units. He has 2 units left to complete and then we can add R22. I hope this project is complete soon.

Overall feeling is I want this project complete. Its starting to drag on and wear me out.

Side note: A kid hit the air lock button, I didnt have enough air in the system for it to work. While airing up the system from the back to check for leaks. Of course the door locks, not a huge issue as the windows were open and I could push a kid through once i removed the screen. If this happens and the windows are locked, what are my options?

Dump the air in your aux system (driverside steer compartment schreader) and the lock retracts.

I can’t believe you have a double acting cylinder on your door lock. If so that is a horrible idea. My Bus has a single acting cylinder which spring retracts when the air drops below the force the spring is exerting. DOH!

Hvac guy has 3/4 cruiseairs working.

New headhunter toilet valve now allows the water to work in my coach.

    New slack adjuster installed.

New airline and fitting installed on rear air bag that was leaking

5/27 was a great step forward for me, more to come

2 steps forward 1 step backwards.

    1. My bedroom cruiseair couldnt keep up when the temp got hotter. I am pending HVAC guy coming saturday to work on the 2 units.

    2. oil change is complete

    3. I drained the dif, but pending one axle stud to install the axle and put the fluid back in the diff.

    4. Went to remove the coolant filter, it wouldnt budge and the filter folded in half. Now I need to figure out how to get the filter off. As a positive it drained all the coolant which was on the agenda.

Broken water filter is off. Now I need to fill the cooling system with water and let it run and then do my final fill.

I’ve been through issues with the coolant filter and hoses. This is what I recommend:

    1. Get a new filter fixture. I got one at Inland Power in Butler WI the Milwaukee area Detroit Diesel go to place. Trash the old fixture. I found the little valve handles broke off very easily due to corrosion. The filter, fixture, hoses, etc. area is a very high impact area of bad stuff from the back tires.

    2. Trash the two hoses. I had one bust open (in my driveway thank you!); IIRC the metal fitting corroded through. You might want to get one or both hoses a few inches longer; the tech who did the work had them made longer. I had them made at a local hydraulic hose shop.

    3. Replace the hose fittings in the engine block and water pump. Be ready for a fight with them. Both of mine disintegrated and they had to be E-Z Outted and cut out. Replace with quality fittings.

Owners of older coaches should do this as preventative maintenance. Our 1999 was 20 or so years old when I had this done in about 2020. The failed hose on our coach could have stopped us dead on the road in terrible weather. No work around except plugging the holes in the block and water pump (if I could have gotten the old fitting out) or the good remaining hose … and only then as a temporary fix.
