I went with a pit boss. I want to be able to pit a cast iron griddle on it to sear. It goes up to 500 degree

I took the day off work yesterday.
1. I pushed in the bushings for the front calipers and loaded the pads onto the calipers. Once my new rotors are in I can bolt caliper to the hub and install.
2. Mounted my brake lining to the shoes.
3. Removed my old batteries and then ran into the struggle bus. The battery bay had some surface rust, and i hate not doing something right. So I took out the wire wheel and removed as much rust as I could. The top part of the battery bay is now clean and ready for por15. The bottom will be done after the top part of the bay since I have to move the battery cables around.
4. My bus only had 3 batteries in it, it can take 4. So I ordered a 4th battery and will need to figure out how to wire that in.
This weekend my goal will be to finish the painting of my battery bay and painting of my chassis. I hope next weekend I can finish my brake install and battery install.

I had a lot going on this weekend and didnt get to make headway on the bus.
Saturday I painted the frame with Por15. Sunday I did my 2nd coating of Por15. Only thing left to do in terms of painting is the final top coat.
I hope to get all my brakes on this weekend.

The entire frame?
Educate me (and maybe someone else on the Forum) about POR-15. I’ve read the POR-15 application process online and it appears there is no need to go after rust with the wire wheel. Is that actually the case?

I believe I read many years ago that POR-15 was originally developed as a concrete paint. I’m not sure if that is true, but I do know that it is extremely tough stuff. Once you put it on, you will likely need a grinder or chisel if you ever want to remove it. About 25 years ago I applied it to the frame and underside of a vintage pickup. Some of the metal was sandblasted, and the rest was gone over extensively with a wire wheel. I applied two coats with a small roller and it adhered to the metal like glue. The paint looks as good today as the day it was put on. Wear a respirator in a well vented area!

They say to get the loose metal off. Then degrease and apply another chemical then water. I’m painting outside, and covered in paint and it won’t come off

I got POR-15 in my hair and on my skin a few years ago. I ended up using a scotch-brite pad to remove it from my hands, and it looked like I had bloody sponges at the end of each forearm. I don’t remember why it seemed so important to remove the paint, but my hands were tender for a couple of weeks. I hate gloves, hats and respirators, but I’ll wear them next time.

Its supposed to be warm enough for me to put the top coat on the por-15 this week. I feel like this might be me going over the top on the coating project, but I wanted it to look nice. When else will I have this much access with the airbags off, the struts off and the brakes off. I also did the battery bay.

1) Shortened 50DN 12v alternator wire because it was “melted”. It actually was not melted. A portion of the sheathing turned to mush, probably from having 20 or so years of oil dripping on it.
2) Replaced 1 generator air bag, and for the moment, I don’t think I have any aux leaks!
3) Working on a complete inverter change (w/ 48v lithium), but that’s going to need a dedicated post.

Is POR-15 only one color? Or are there different colors? Thanks!

Not sure now, but it used to come only in Black. One can paint a top coat(s) over it once it “flashes”, or dries to a tacky surface. I remember that once it dries completely, it can be challenging to get a top coat to stick properly/permanently. If you get it on your hands, it will be there until it wears off!

Sounds like “Rust Bullet for Concrete” that I put on a shop floor in 2014. Whatever I got on my hands, it had to wear off.

They have different colors. Gloss black, semi gloss black, silver, gray, clear
