Sounds like Okie is also coming around to my way of thinking. If your flip phone doesn’t take pictures, send pictures, receive pictures, send or receive text and has no voice mail (answering machine) capability you never have to deal with the phone company.
Keep it up guys. You’re slowly but surely realizing progress isn’t.

I, too, don’t text or receive photos on my phone. I bought one of the last flip-phones at Best Buy about a year ago. Verizon didn’t even offer them anymore. All I wanted at that time (and even currently), is to just have a phone to make and receive phone calls. All of my siblings text each other (7 of us totally). I’m a twin and my twin brother insists that I upgrade on the next phone.
They say that I’m really out of the loop by not have texting capabilities. My Dad is 93 and still lives at home. Even though we have a care taker with him during the day, one of us (children) will have dinner with him in the evening to make sure that he takes his night time medications. So, everybody keeps in touch by texts except me.
My youngest sister texts but doesn’t have voicemail, I have voicemail but don’t text…. we both get frustrated. LOL!
I may decide not to upgrade right away when the new coach arrives. I may wait and try to learn the Crestron and all it has to offer before I put another element into the equation. I don’t want to put the cart before the horse.
But, ultimately, I will eventually get with the real world as my comfort level rises.

I have a flip phone. My employer provides me with a Blackberry for company email. I like my flip phone. Texting is just awkward enough to keep me from doing very much of it. It takes mediocre pictures that get the job done when I need to send a picture to someone.
We were at the Indianpolis 500 last weekend. I heard today that 21% of the people attending the Indy 500 this weekend did NOT see any of the race because they were during “stuff” on their smart phones.

I do my texting via voice not typing… love it !!
Sure makes it easy and don’t have to call and talk to anyone !!
I did have to change my language to Australian so that “Siri” didn’t screw up my messages… some of which were quite funny actually.Diane

I cannot stay long Jon, I am once again in trouble with the wife. I asked her what she wanted for Mother’s Day, she said: “Oh, something white, with chrome that goes from zero to One-fifteen in 6 seconds.” So I got her a bathroom scale, now my computer time is being monitored and I am eating tuna fish sandwiches quite a lot.
Read recently where employee’s of an Amtrak train headed for Salem, Oregon, stopped the train so that a 39 year old man could be escorted off the train at a non-scheduled stop. The man allegedly spent “16 hours” talking on a cell phone in a “quiet” car.
Everywhere we go, the phones and the electronic’s are there. My wife even has her phone rigged up to automatically send a photo that she has taken, back home to the computer and placed into storage.
Imagine that.
This simple feat just amazes me. I have pictures in my cellphone that are over three years old, I don’t know where it is they reside ‘xactly, nor do I know how to retrieve them and get them out of there.
Now …. Here is the amazing part of all this … A battery that would last 16 hours after continuous use? Whew. Stop resisting Jon, come over to the dark side with the rest of us. We won’t tell Di

When I had to change my broken Flip phone for a new one, they asked me if I wanted to transfer my phonebook contacts over… I said, what is that? I have never entered in the phone numbers of people that I call. They looked at me rather strange.
I don’t keep numbers in my phone although I like the ‘in case of emergency’ option number but have never ventured into punching it in the phone.
It doesn’t take long to be un-techy… I really would like the convenience of some of the new phone features. The reason I think I lost interest a few years ago was that a phone seemed to last a couple of years and EVERYBODY (including my friends) had to have the newest and greatest…. it just seemed like a waste of money. Why can’t these existing devices last longer?

Thankfully our Verizon store still offers at least 2 models of flip phone. I just upgraded mine. Only reason I upgraded was the battery would not stay charged on the old one.
