Peter, since you moved up in the world to that Liberty, you are seeing all kinds of crazy s***!!! Did you have to switch to a cheaper brand of refreshment?? That can do it….
-
Sounds good, Mark. That’s all I can think to suggest. Except maybe see if they can run Cat 6 and use baluns for the TVs instead of HDMI. That way when the next technology comes out they can put in new baluns and not have to run cables.
I am hoping for a quote soon on doing this and other electronic upgrades. One thing I want is to have a central A/V setup so that, for instance, one Sirius XM module or bluetooth device can play in the bedroom, outside or at the driver’s seat. Really, there is no need to have a separate head unit for the driver, which requires a separate subscription, as does the outside entertainment bay.

Karl, you are speaking gibberish…. I have no idea what a HDMI is or a Cat 6 or baluns. Liberty’s are very well thought out…. I know they will take care of me and when they do something, there is a good reason.
I know I will have a fairly large learning curve (as Jon says “a firehose”).

Ha! It’s like me listening to Jon drone on about the air systems…….zzzzzzzzzzz
HDMI is the cable primarily used for high definition TVs now. The cables are not field spliceable and come with the ends already attached. You can imagine that pulling a cable with an end that is 1 inch or more across, with sharp (grabby) edges is much harder than pulling a plain wire (Cat 6 is computer networking wire and has 8 wires in a tight bundle). The baluns are a box that the Cat 6 wire plugs into, and an HDMI end comes out of the balun and is then plugged into the TV. The advantage comes when HDMI becomes the old technology. Cat 6 has plenty of capacity to expand in the future, and instead of pulling a new cable you would just use a new balun. Since you intend to keep this bus forever, easy upgradeability will become important. You could even have them pull redundant Cat 6 cables in case one fails. And they do, on occasion.
Liberty will take care of you. Wiring this way is just a means to future proof the bus.

Karl, thank you for the explanation. I will have to upgrade my flip phone to an iphone when the new bus arrives. I’m behind the curve. I used to be up on all this stuff years ago but lost interest. I will get back on the program as I want to control and monitor the bus from my phone when in storage or away from it.
Again, thanks, I may have to keep you on PC speed dial!

I have a flip phone and it is totally compatible with my coach. I’m telling you guys that are hung up on having your smart phone as the remote control for the coach operating system that as soon as Apple comes out with the next generation you will all be going nuts trying to figure out why the toilet keeps flushing when you turn on the TV.
Or was it an I-pad that made coffee when you wanted to lock the door?

Be ye not the first to try the latest … Nor the last to cast the olde aside.

(CB location correction)
I mentioned in an earlier post that the CB in the Liberty was located in a compartment next to the driver’s seat. It’s actually between the driver’s seat and the closed compartment. Things kinda run together after a while.
I was looking at one of Liberty’s new coaches going through the pics…. and there it was, the CB next to the driver’s seat.
Boxcar…. perfect caption!

Great cartoon. There’s a lot to be said for being on the leading edge versus being on the bleeding edge. Been there, done that, have the cuts to prove it.
-
I will be proven right.
When everyone gets tired of trying to turn on lights with their I-pads or have electronically operated toilets you will go back to simpler times and do away with all the sizzle and concentrate on the steak. Ron has already thrown in the towel. More to follow.
-
Jon…really? You own a Liberty. Maybe, like Tom, you too may be moving away from unnecessary bells and whistles. Oh yea, you like the whistles.
-
It has to make sense. When does a simple wall switch for lights such as the lights in the kitchen / dinette area make less sense than having to use an ipad, smart phone or Crestron? It doesn’t.

Went to the telephone store yesterday. I look at the kid and say, “My telephone bill is five dollars high this month, can you tell me what is going on?” he says, “Let me see your bill.” So I say, “they don’t send me a bill, they do it all electronically.” Much like two star crossed lovers, leaving footprints in the sand, we walk over to the computer and I give him all of my identification and the name of my first born male child. He keys up the computer.
We are off and running.
He says to me “Here it is. You had 12 photographs at .50 cent each.” Now as our kid is really proud of his kids, and sends pictures of the youngest standing next to a trash can all of the time, that would explain it. But months ago, I had this feature disabled on my phone (along with text messaging at the same time). I am not supposed to get photo’s or text, I am just supposed to get telephone calls for new storm windows, carports, septic tank pumping, stuff like that.
I tell him this, the nice kid, who still has lipstick on his cheek where his mother kissed him good-bye this morning. He offers me nothing. So I say to him, “I never got any pictures, this has to be a mistake.” He says, “Let me see your phone” and he looks for the pictures that I received that are clearly not there, and this shrugs his shoulders and says, “Must be some kind of glitch.”
He removes the charge and gives me a credit, which doesn’t really put anything back in my bank account, so we may or may not be done with this issue, I am not sure. So then I ask him, “How about these junk telephone calls, am I being charged for them?” and he says, “No.”
I ask him, “so I am not charged for them even if they leave a message on my voice mail?” He says, “Oh that is different. If you open your voice mail and listen to the message, then you are charged for the call.”
Hmmmmm, “this means, that I am damned if I do and damned if I don’t, wouldn’t you say?” He smiles, and says … “Yes sir. That is about it.”
In other words ….They got you by the … Well Y’know.
Nice kid, most likely will be some kind of politician one of these days. Perhaps I can hire him to “teach me all about my new Smart Phone, that SamSung sold me without any printed instructions.”
