It’s good to have projects to do in the middle of the lock down to keep our minds sharp. But! I had to trench 300 feet of 1 inch water line at the house, that was not fun and it didn’t do anything for my mind, just made my back hurt. When we built house in 1985 I put in a water line around garage to little house and rear sprinklers since then it’s all concreted over, sometime in all the concrete stakes I must of nicked the pipe so I got a leak under the concrete, so I abandoned the leaky line and trenched a new line in, I was lucky I had access from meter to little house and rear sprinklers.

    1) New tires on bus. Like new (looking) take offs mounted on 22.5 Pete Alcoa wheels bought from LKQ HT (currently has 24.5’s).
After mounting found a guy that polishes so hauled 4 outer drives to him. Those turned out so good took remaining 6. Just picked those up and only swapped steers so far.
Truck is 379 EXT 3406E Cat just a toy.

    2) Helped my buddy Joe (Pogger) swap rear diff in his Pete.

    3) Completely rewired boat trailer and replaced 2 of the 6 sets of wheel bearings that were bad. One had started to weld inner to spindle.

    4) Removed rear door and had fiberglass redone on a Marathon trailer.

    5) Replaced all capacitors in 3 Cruisairs in bus. Replaced bad bearing in OTR A/C idler. Also updated to newer style alternator belt tensioner. Replaced OTR A/C evap blower solenoid. Greased toilet flapper so bowl now holds water.

    6) Replaced crank damper on Cat in Pete with Vibratech. That was fun without removing radiator. Also replaced driver’s seat and cab air bags.

    7) Bought a new toy. Had one of these 20 yrs ago.

    8) Great time at Lake Texoma Memorial weekend.

    Changed 50dn seal

found air bag leak (again) changing to compression

Had profan rebuild fan drive- could hear bearing from drivers seat as a rumble, not a squeal

Cleaned up structure in radiator area

That bus looks great. U did a really nice job. What was the reason for replacing panels on trailer?

I really do not know the conditions. Last owner stored outside in Houston under roof only covering. Almost did not buy because of the corrosion. I bought the neglected coach because it was at a reduced price, we loved the colors, and I was eager to do the work while learning about the coach. Underestimated amount of labor!

I would still do it again but would say to anyone else, hire an expert for PPI and then decide.

Nice work all! I am continually impressed by the talent within this group.

Dick, Can you elaborate on your cruisair replacement? Who did the work, source of units and total cost? I am considering doing the same thing if i can justify it to myself. Thanks,

    Jeff

Jeff, I replaced Cruisairs on two coaches using two methods.

On my first coach I did the work myself. The coach had three units and I bought three factory rebuilt units from AAP. When they were delivered I removed the original ones and installed the new ones.

On that coach (Liberty) I shut off the valves, removed the screws holding the base to the coach, disconnected the two refrigerant lines, disconnected the electrical connection, pulled the unit out and reversed the procedure to install the replacements.

The units came pre-charged so I vacuumed the evaporator side of the system, opened the valves and adjusted the R-22 charge using gauges and the “beer cold” method. The beer cold method is to adjust the charge to get the coldest reading at the suction line.

On my present coach I used a completely different approach. The only tools I used were a pen and checkbook. I went to AAP in VA and they replaced all four units. The only thing I did was help make it easy for Dana of AAP by removing anything that would be in the way such as the entertainment center and stuff in the first bay so he had complete access.

The way Dana did the replacements was exactly as I described above with the only difference being the impact to my checkbook for his labor.

I do not know how your coach would compare to my Liberty coaches because each converter locates things differently and may have an easier or harder way to get at them.

Three hours each? Something like that with the time varying based on access and if there are issues.

Elaborate on your clear coat touch-up plan. Mine is starting to crackle on the top curve towards the roof. The roof needs a coating also.

Thank you Jon. Did you replace the evaps/air handlers either or both times. Is that recommended if the old ones are still functional?

I have never replaced an evaporator or evaporator fan and because of how they are located I would rather eat bees than do that.

Billy, I bought the stacker from Marathon last fall for a great deal as the previous owner scratched the top of the first 3 panels on the passenger side. I was first planning on wrapping it but this is the better way to go long term.
