There’s your first mistake Mark, you didn’t go to Loves for the .10 per gallon discount.;)

We have owned the new Liberty for about a month now. Loving it!
Trying to get all of our ducks in a row….. fuel discount program, learning the electronic systems, etc. It is amazing how well thought-out everything is (in my opinion).
The Espar heating system keeps everything toasty and warm on those low 30’s nights here in TN. Did I tell you how nice heated floors are? The Lennon sisters would love’m!
The tow-kick heaters can surely put out the heat!
Anyway, just wanted to make an update and we are off tomorrow westward. Honk if you see us!
Safe travels,
MM. -
And Mark, consider that compliment high praise from Tom because he has had them all.
Except for the slides that Nancy wants real bad.

Glad it’s all going well for you guys… the learning curve is huge… enjoy and safe travels to you both.
Cheers, Diane

Mark,I am curious as to the weight of your coach and the fuel mileage with the Volvo D13.
-
Jack,
I know it takes many miles to get a ‘real’ number on mileage. The computer center shows the average and I’m running about 60 mph the whole way. Today, we drove about 302 miles and the average is showing 7.2 mpg.
It started at 6 this morning as I had only driven about 35 miles when I filled it up before we parked it for a month in TN. That 6 worked it’s way to 7.2 when we parked tonight in eastern Texas. I’m writing down all the mileage/gallons/etc. to get a real pencil to paper figure for the future.
It was cold in TN the last month. The Espar uses a good bit of fuel. In four weeks, it appears to have used about 110 gallons of diesel. I also used the tow-kick heaters too. It was nice and toasty inside.
Just before we parked for the night I wanted to fill up and get DEF for the first time. After I filled with diesel, I had ‘C’ hold the diesel handle (they told me not to put it back in the holder or it would cancel the sale) and then I tried to put in DEF. It would not start. I hit the DEF button and it just wouldn’t flow. So, I put everything back, went inside and told them the DEF pump wasn’t working. I really feel I was doing it right but I have never put in DEF before. They told me the sequence which a 4th grader could do. I guess I need to repeat the 3rd grade, LOL!
We have a half a tank of DEF so we are OK until the next fill-up.
On the weight, I’m not sure. Liberty told me it should be 53,000-54,000 lbs. wet. We have put a few things in so I will need to stop buy a CAT scale to make sure how much we weigh.

This is off topic but I noticed something that was totally peculiar.
In our other coach, when I would flash my bright lights for the truckers to pass, 90% of the time they would not blink their lights with a ‘thank you’. I actually stopped flashing because of their lack of response.
Well, today, driving from TN to TX, I would say about 90% FLASHED their lights with a thank you (with me using bright lights). Is it because it’s the Christmas Season or what? It was SO noticeable that I couldn’t help notice the difference. Would a Prevost coach cause a different reaction?
MM.
On Edit: 99.9% of the time, we only drive during daylight hours.
-
MM ….Usually most truckers will acknowledge my flashing headlights to let them know all is clear. I also noticed a change from plastic to bus.
With the legal ruling on headlight flashing overturned in Florida, I’ll flash other Prevost buses going the other way on the Interstate. Just a quick low-high, most respond back.
All this helps pass the time and keeps me alert.

Yep… It’s respect… I think they put you in a respectful driving category when you are in what they would consider a “fine” machine !!

Don’t flash brights at night.
In the old days if you flashed your bright lights at a big truck you would be cussed at on the CB and thought of as a rookie. As time went on and old guys got off the road the practice of flashing bright lights somehow has become a habit.
The reason being if you flashed your brights at the same time I’m looking in the mirror you just blinded me for a few seconds. No different than if someone coming at you is running bright lights. I think guys just got lazy and it was to much work to reach to your dash and bump the toggle switch.
The proper way is to shut your headlights off for about 2 seconds and put them back on, I am sure you will receive a blink blink thank you.
In our crazy lawyer filled world I heard rumors this practice was somehow forbidden to some company drivers due to liability issues.
If your driving in the daylight flash away but if at night don’t do it, your blinding the guy.

Driver,
I’ll sharpen up my response a little as you talked about night time. You’re right with your comment about high beam flash at night…not the best thing to do.
I did use my clearance/marker switch. I’am not a fan of turning off all the lights, seems a little much.
-
I know BA, thats because you never were a truck driver. If you bump your switch half way your marker lights stay on and only headlights go off.

Wait a minute, did I misunderstand you BA? I’m only talking about if you get passed and want to give someone a clear sign.
You have your intermitten switch if you are passing to say thank you. -
If I pass I’ll pull back in, hit 4 way flasher switch doing 2 or 3 reps and continue on my way.
