The good news is that except for the big water in the aux/accessory tank, the system is back together again, with two check valves on the tank side. That’s a huge relief. Almost all the fittings are new, all except for one check valve (there were two originally) and one adapter. Two hoses are new and the big one has compression fittings now. I put loads of pipe sealant on, not always by choice. 🙂
Meantime the coach is happy without the compressor (staying at the same height). I am OK without it too except for one important thing: the fan that brings in fresh air from the outside so magnificently depends on air. I have missed that a lot and cannot wait to get that working again. Otherwise, copasetic.
I probably should get a new tank before I fire things up. Yes?
Have a great rest of the evening,
Susan

Susan,
The good news is you now realize air system maintenance has to be part of what you do to keep the coach in good shape. The bad news is you have more to do.
Your coach has several air tanks, an air dryer, and somewhere downstream from the aux air compressor there should be a water separator or water trap. Based on the photo I would urge you to drain all the coach air tanks down to zero pressure. I am hoping someone has been doing that routinely, but if not you could see copious amounts of water in the bus air system.
Assuming the air system has been ignored I would also urge the replacement of the air dryer cartridge.
Then every 5000 miles or so drain all air tanks, and about every 2 years replace the dryer cartridge.
The air system is easy to ignore but if left unmaintained water can find its way into all of the components associated with brakes, suspension and house pneumatic devices and the cost and effort to fix the damage can be extensive.
Do not get under a coach unless it is supported at the chassis support points. Ever.

It will be taken care of, Jon.
Yes, it is good that I understand this now. I have driven the coach
about 9,000 miles. Had it in to Mira Loma for a thorough inspection and maintenance about
7,000 miles ago. Also to a couple other well known shops. No one said anything about the
air system, dryers, brakes at all.But the buck stops here. I am just putting my attention on the brakes now. I will be more diligent
from now on, in general. What a shame this got to such an extreme condition.
I am not far from Eugene. I will get things taken care of.
A sobering message, Jon. And sobering thoughts about what could have happened and what
the lovely coach has endured. Thanks again for your good help.Susan
