I go through Sherwood often, on my way to Portland. I have relatives in Multnomah. Greg, you’re in the home of Camping World. ha ha I almost stayed at the nice park in Wilsonville. But it’s a bit too urban for my cat. They won’t let him off the leash (and rightly so in that environment). Here he gets indulged. I like it here in the valley. It’s got some good restaurants and wineries. One of my favorite things so far is the annual UFO Festival Parade. Coming through Sherwood today, I was on my way back from Grainger, where I picked up a check valve rated to 450 degrees for only about $20…CDI brand…hope I did OK.
I also got this pipe sealant…big tube…I am hoping this will be OK…if not, I can go to NAPA and get that blister pack that you recommended, Al. I just picked this up because I was there. (That says “ANTI-SEIZE”

They said they didn’t have any compression fittings for this situation. And I walked out of NAPA the other day without compression fittings too, having asked for them but, when I got home I realized that they gave me the push-on kind. The fellow at Grainger told me about a place in Tualatin that makes custom fittings and hoses, A1 Coupling. Have you heard anything about them, Greg? Their site is a1coupling.com.

More importantly it looks like it has a metal to metal valve seat and it is sensitive to orientation.
The check valve should be a spring check with a rubber or similar material for the seat, and it should be an inline with orientation in any position. If a length of copper tubing coming from the compressor is used the heat at the check valve should be minimal so the max operating temperature could be less.

In Texas, we would call that leak free. Another example of how dedicated effort pays off. Leak back through the aux air compressor is often a problem. I installed two check valves on the discharge line about four feet from the compressor to allow for the air to cool. The best way to keep the aux air compressor discharge air cool is to avoid having your aux compressor run all the time.

My experience has been, once the coach is leak free, it will last for years. My last leak finding adventure was two years ago.

Ditto with Tom, the fitting in display reminds me of ones used in marine applications for liquids.
The check valves used in pneumatic lines do not look like that.
Sealant looks OK ….. with this application.

Here’s DoT approved check valves. Although not really required on your Aux air system, there no reason not to use them.

I do not remember where I purchased the check valves. The catalog that Gil attached will provide choices for check valve. Mine are rubber seats (better for tight shutoff). I installed double checks and be sure to install as far away from the compressor as possible. If the aux air compressor runs often, the air will become very hot( the hot air can damage the rubber tight shutoff seat in the check valve). Very Important, manage leaks in the aux system such that suspension leaks are at a minimum to decrease aux compressor run time. Mine will run once every few days.I am heading to high country Colorado, so I am sure the cool weather will bring out leaks.
Buying a bigger compressor is not the answer.

Someone recommended I install a check valve near the Prevost aux air connection. This makes a lot since for multiple reasons. The compressor air will be cool and it prevents any air leaking through the compressor’s regulator, if you have one. This is not a substitude for the one your replacing but rather an augmentation.

I have seen you mention twice that you installed not one but two inline check valves. That sure sounds like a great idea. I have never installed even a single one before, though, so I am wondering
— whether you used a check valve that is designed specifically to go into a nylon air tube (or one that could have other uses) and
— does the check valve have the dreaded push-in fitting or the compression type and
— did you bump the up against each other (have one valve screwed into the other???) or if not, how far away did you locate one from the other?

You must be in for a climb if it’s gonna be that cold in Colorado. I drove my coach home to Pagosa Springs 3 years ago. As a completely green driver, I had to go over Wolf Creek Pass (in the San Juans in SW CO). Maybe you’ve heard the song about Wolf Creek Pass, or you’ve gone around that hairpin turn? That was in November and I was worried about ice patches too. But no ice and a smooth descent. I was really glad that I already knew that pass well, though. I don’t think the signs give anything near realistic warning about that turn. Or that tunnel, for that matter.
