No street creed but your flashing all the stuff and how good it’s gonna be for trucking. How in the world can you talk about it when you don’t know anything about it.

Look all this latest and greatest is just fine and we all know it’s coming. All I ask for is an on off switch. Oh and a law passed saying nothing that is done in New York and California pertains to the rest of us. I’ll keep the old farts around while the rest of them discuss cow farts.
I remember and it wasn’t that long ago, when Jon was telling a guy about the Liberty Coach who went out and bought a Marathon. So we know there is evil in the world! But that ended all right after talking Jon down for the good part of the day! How he got on top of that blueberry bush in the first place is a wonder?
So let us turn this stuff off that’s all I ask! And then a guy transgenders to a girl and is competing in women sports! My oh my oh my!

Jon is old school with a flip phone and hates technology, but loves cassette players
I love my rolling computer built by Chevy. But it doesn’t alert me if I drift out of my lane, it will let me rear end the car in front of me, and it doesn’t turn off at a traffic light.
I don’t care if everyone else in the world wants and uses self driving cars as long as I am not forced to do the same thing.
I do have a cassette player, a VCR, and a record player that can play 78’s.
I do like technology that makes sense.

I own a trucking company, not big, only 100 trucks. do we want this technology? no, do we need it, no. an average semi costs us about $160,0000, a driverless truck would be so expensive it would kill small companies like us, for 2 reasons, 1st who would work on it? it’s hard enough to find techs to maintain regular trucks let alone this high tech “gadget”, 2nd there are too many real world variables that cannot be programmed in to this “gadget”, so you will still have to pay a driver. We as a industry are taxed like crazy just to operate, Iowa trucking companies paid over $561 million dollars in Federal & state roadway taxes, this is on top of regular business taxes. And just because some clown comes up with a high tech idea, doesn’t mean its a good idea.

I feel your pain Iowa. I was in the trucking business for 35 years and can’t imagine how hard it is to make a go of it these days. Bernie is still at it big time and he see’s the day to day battles to keep things moving probably just like you. By the way, 100 trucks is a big deal…..
I doubt there will be any driverless big trucks in my lifetime, but we said the same thing about electronic logs and who would have thought you would have to have a separate tank one day for DEF..
I do like the technology that’s coming available to help drivers do their job and stay safe, but that technology is expensive and there is the problem. Everyone wants the trucks to be safe, but no one wants to pay the higher rates that are needed by the trucking companies to offset this technology expense.
I wish you guys the best, it’s a tough business, but remember the old phrase, “if you got it, a truck brought it.”
By the way, my first truck was H Model Mack, my first new truck was a 72 Pete, COE, 370 Cummins and 13 speed. I threw that in there for Andy.

Not liking something is not going to stop it from happening. Auto driving vehicles ARE coming and they cannot be stopped. Personally, I can’t wait. Growing up I was told that by now I would be flitting around the Country in flying cars. It seems that this may come true “soon”. No matter the technology, people will still die driving cars but since we cannot create unlimited lanes on the freeways, the only way to prevent complete gridlock 20 years from now it to get the self driving car working to allow stuffing 20 pounds of cars in the 10 pound box we now call the Interstate highway system.

Given the number of telemarketing calls and robo calls now invading my home and cell phones when my cell phone breaks or is no longer supported I am seriously considering not having one at all.
I managed to grow a number of businesses and NEVER carried one when I had my businesses and I actually survived. I rarely turn it on, and when I do use it the total time per month is very likely less than 30 minutes, so its value to what I pay sucks. I don’t expect to see flying donkeys any time soon, if at all.

I still believe in punishment that gets increasingly severe as dumb asses continue to do the stuff that forces the technology down our throats.
The lawmakers do not have the guts to force distractions to be shut off anytime a vehicle is on the right of way and moving so make the use of these distracting devices during times when a vehicle is in motion impossible. If the interior of the car senses the presence of alcohol, do not allow it to start. If a cop can sense alcohol or the use of pot or drugs just by talking to a motorist there is a way to do that. This entire situation is exactly like the farce we now call airport security. Good innocent people are being punished instead of those guilty. As a society we should not allow this.

Volvo will use in-car cameras to combat drunk and distracted driving
Let me make sure I understand this… I buy a Volvo and they think its a good idea to video me while I’m in the car?
That gives OUTRAGEOUS an entirely new meaning! How can anyone think that’s a good idea? Is that really how we want to handle drunk driving? And who in the heck gives Volvo or any other car company the right, the audacity to do this! We’re going to get to the point that these companies and government agencies are making all our decisions. Are we out of our minds to allow such a thing? Can none of us make up our own minds and decide when we’re ready to stop, what we want to eat and how and when we want to eat it? Why not have a time system for our bus where you can drive only six hours a day and if you drive more than that you’re given 20 miles before your engine shuts down? Really, is that what we want?
I am shocked and dismayed there are folks who thinks these are good ideas. Are we really so weak and unable to decide for ourselves whats good, right and just in our lives? Do we really need others to dictate to us what we must do and how we must do it? Such thinking is frightening and we’ve fought more than one war to maintain freedom and educating ourselves and our families to think for ourselves and make decisions instead of having others make them for us!
I’m sorry, but we better get ahold of ourselves and know such totalitarian ideas have no place in a free society!

You nailed it Harry. TSA can strip search you if they want before you can get on a plane. What ever happened to reasonable cause?
If you have a GM product with On-Star not only are all your travels documented and then that data is bundled and sold so you can get targetted emails, but your entire driving history is available for lawyers, cops and insurance companies.
And because there are drunks and distracted drivers, the technology to make them less dangerous is shoved down your throat (which you pay for) and the BS reason is it is for safety.
Look at the statistics. Our safety continues to improve significantly and it has been happening long before the technology we “need” has become part and parcel of all vehicles. Our old cars are now highly valued by my wife and I because they don’t record my driving habits or attempt to drive for us.
