I have mine almost dis engaged so it won’t do that.

As far as this self driving truck business again all things mentioned are true.

They will run trains with box freight on the big roads like when you see double and triples and have to be broken out before they get off the highway at designated spots. I don’t care if they do that all day long, can’t make money hauling box frt anyway.

Might get some idiots off the road.

Mark3101, I have not had the experience you mention with the AWARE system. I think of the 64 months and 56,000 miles that we have owned the coach, the system activated the brakes (actually transmission downshift) a few times. Although I also thought it was a little early it has not happened often.

I do get the alarm almost every time I go under an overpass (no braking) where the ‘red ring’ of lights illuminate around the speedometer.

We have several cars now with the automated systems (lane control, auto braking, booty scratch , etc.). I really do like the added safety features because they will never come on if you are driving correctly.

I used the ‘auto parking’ feature on the MKX recently for the first time. Honestly, it was a neat feature and parked me perfectly parallel in front of a restaurant. It will also park the car in a perpendicular parking space but I haven’t tried that yet.

I’m almost 62 yrs. old, I like the added safety features. We have a ’95 E320 Cabriolet that has nothing (no rear camera, no bumpers sensors, no real warnings of any kind)….I find myself missing them.

Mr. Mark: I talked to Bernie last night and he told me that it is not user changeable. He had his changed while at a Volvo dealer getting engine parameters looked at. So, I will have to check with either Prevost or my local Volvo dealer to see what is required to make changes to the system. As it is setup now, I really have a strong dislike of it if you couldn’t tell…..

How come the only planes that crashed were overseas and not in the U S because of the FAA or pilots trained in the U S?

After 9/11 few if any were still allowed to train in the U S.

Started as a yacht captain long before bow thruster were around and learned how to maneuver a boat with out thrusters. Jump ahead to current times, bow thrusters are almost standard equipment and used ALL the time. On a recent trip I had a thruster fail in high winds & currents. I had a O sh.. moment then my years of NOT having a thruster kicked in and I dock the boat without an issues.
My point is; having learned old school without the modern convenient of a thruster I had the experience in my back pocket to pull out and use when needed. What happens to the generations that never had to learn the basics because the vehicle has always done it for them.

If I fail to control a boat most likely it will only cost $$$$, if a failure to control a vehicle happens most likely personal harm or death

When a driverless truck “craps out” in the middle of intersection, what is going to push the “engine override” button to get said truck to a safe place to complete its breakdown/repair. Chris’s mom is 93 yrs old, and recently her computerized electronic Lexus “died” in the middle of an intersection. No steering, no brakes, and she had hard time figuring out how to get out. The car had to be dragged from intersection dead as an anchor. No fan of computers. My favorite car we own now is 1978 Mercedes 300cd

The manufacturers of planes, cars, truck and buses are all saying their drivers are unskilled dumb asses and that is their duty to make these vehicles with systems that remove responsibility from drivers since they don’t know how to drive in the first place.

Advocates of such systems would have us believe they make us safer, which they do until through attrition skilled drivers retire, die or no longer retain the skills due to lack of use. It is at that point those who rely on those features to keep them safe better pray there is never an equipment failure, software glitch, or outside influence that renders the systems incapable.

Thanks, but no thanks. I am already sharing the road with jackasses that lack driving skills, and really don’t need any more occupying MY highway.
