My name is Kelven Cockerham and my company is FTS – Factory Transporter Service in N.C. I have been working on Cruisair units since 1995 and worked very closely with AAP over the years. I am now the east coast distributor for the Cruisair replacement units being offered by Aqua Air. I will be selling and installing new systems, service, repair and refurb on existing Cruisair units. My home base is Mocksville, NC. but I will be offering mobile onsite options as well for those that need it. I have a complete stock of all parts for any Cruisair units including replacement compressors. Feel free to call for info, parts orders or service. The distributorship will be named FTS – AirCool to separate it from my race transporter repair business. Kelven Cockerham – 336-909-2508

I just got my compressor all in and replaced. Put in a new filter dryer. Removed the HGB valve. Cleaned the coils while I had it out. Just put it all back together and moved it under the bumper. It’s all wired up but I have not connected up the evap lines to it yet. Need to do this and then run a vacuum next.

The reversing valve worked before I had it all apart. I’m afraid that during the dewelding/brazing process on the HGB solder melted and went down the tube. It’s almost impossible to avoid. I’m betting that the unit when originally installed they brazed those out of the unit and had it sideways or upside down to prevent melted solder from going down the tube. I had the tube near the dryer that was completely plugged after removing the copper pipe from the bottom. This made me think this was the problem I was having, however, it would of never worked if it was like that to begin with. It could of only happened from the desoldering process.

I’d be super careful brazing that reversing valve in as it’s so close to the valve itself. Perhaps keep cool rags on it and/or use some thermo-trap paste on it.

I got rid of the Cruisairs on my 1984 Liberty Coach (cooling only), but I still have two on my boat. My buddy (with the same boat) and I serviced our units a couple of weeks ago. His evaporator was missing the air filter, and had somehow managed to get beat all to hell. I swear the previous owner was storing barbells back there. I doubt this will happen on a Prevost installation, but this first picture is what you’ll see before you spend an hour with a bathroom vanity mirror and a small pick. The comb tool was just tearing the fins up, so I had to bend them back one at a time.

The second picture is from my undamaged boat, so not quite a reflection of my pick skills. The airflow on my buddy’s boat did increase substantially though.

    Update

All 4 units are now working. 3 units worked, we replaced broken valves and installed dryers. One unit took a new compressor, new capacitor, new valves, new dryer, and cutting out of the reversing valve.

I have 4 working cruise airs. I might add a timer to the one that has no reversing valve.

time to button it all up and put my new aux air compressor in

Can you tell us why you decided to forgo replacing the reversing valve instead of removing it? The cost of a new valve isn’t all that expensive. It appears they last 20+ years in most cases. Then again, things made 20 years ago are much better than today’s products.

I didnt need the heating option and it felt simpler then adding another part I didnt really know a lot about. The supply house wasnt able to get one and the one I found on the internet might have worked but no one really knows.
