When I have encountered morons at my fuel stop I say nothing, I don’t give them the finger, or do anything to irritate the fools. They don’t like us. We represent the haves and they feel we “rich bastards” are interfering with them. Some would have no problem sideswiping us if we irritated them because they don’t own the truck they are driving.

I’m not saying all or even most drivers are jerks, but those that are jerks have the potential to ruin our day so I avoid as much contact with them as possible.

In Bill’s example above I probably would have unhitched, drove the toad to a spot to hook up, and then backed the coach out, rehitched and drove away when it was evident the trucker was going to sit there as long as possible just to piss Bill off. They do the same to other truckers, but there is a little peer pressure at work if they do that. With motor homes they don’t care what we think.

Despite the delay incident I mentioned above we have never had a problem fueling. Frequently drivers give a thumbs up or come over and ask about the bus. Most of them say it’s their dream to have one.

I copy that about the conversations. If You avoid making eye contact with them. They might not come over and ask You ” Who’s on the Bus ” Thinking there is a Star on board. Default short answer of Mine if I am in a hurry or dont feel like talking. Is ” Sorry , I am not aloud to tell You ” Just let their imagination run with it. And other times it depends on how they approach , I will give them the short story of how it is just an RV. Also have had several ask the question, ” What does a rig like that cost ” Gotta love a Prevost !

If your trip is to Idaho, best fill up or at least top off your fuel tank before entering Montana. Last time I was through there I needed fuel and had to use a country Mom and Pop station with lots of loaded cow trailers around all of which were being pulled by diesel powered 3500 pick up trucks. Lots of cowboy boots and hats too. Turned out the fuel was good and no problems interrupted that trip. Best calculate the miles required to traverse Montana, it’s a long distance, to make sure you can get all the way across it without needing fuel.

Jon, I filled up day before yesterday in Roswell, NM at the truck stop at $2.17 and used the card, no problems. Let me know when you are in NM as I will be in Northern NM until Sept 5 when we head up to Colorado and South Dakota on our way to Indiana.
