My non Crestron Marathon will restart all AC/s after power is restored. I assume Techlink enables this to happen.

Peter’s comments are correct relative to AGM batteries such as Lifeline Batteries. A battery’s life is meassured in the number of charging cycles and if the depth of discharge is substantial, such as 90% a set of batteries may have significantly fewer charging cycles than one that is never allowed to drop below 50% for example.

I do not knpw if the same holds true for Li batteries.

As my tires were being installed, I point blank asked about new valve stems and was told they were not needed! I guess I should have requested new stems in spite of the advice….and now I wish I had.

I’m struggling with the sensors announcing alerts for one reason of the other…or not working at all. I’m thinking when we get back off this trip, I’m going to completely delete and reset all the sensors while the bus is in my barn, pressuring all the tires precisely and with the temps all stable. I’m hoping that will help bring my P/P up the the level of satisfaction many seem to enjoy.

By the way…am I missing a way to turn this thing off….that is, without digging down in the dash to unplug it?

Update…We drove another 125 miles yesterday. After a few days of alarms I couldn’t understand…yesterday, start to finish, they worked flawlessly. I noticed yesterday before we pulled out, two of the 12 sensors were showing ???. But as we got underway, everything seemed to fall in place and performed as advertised for the rest of the trip. I’m a happy camper…love to be able to get a quick look at pressures all during the day. I am going to install a switch to be able to turn it off…no use in it staying on for days and weeks on end if I’m not on the road. Thanks for the help, Tom…ty

After three days and nearly 800 miles, we made it to Parliament in Clearwater. I must say that this bus is impressive. It’s three years younger than I am and in much better shape! No tools were required! Okay, the windshield wiper motors need to be changed from air to electric and the odometer was a bit eratic, but otherwise, no issues and a very nice trip.

This bus has separate diesel tanks for the engine and generator. The generator tank has no guage (yet) and it will take a while to figure out when to fill up. I had a stroke of luck that while refuling the main tank, the generator decided to stop. While I would have preferred not to run the generator tank to empty, how lucky was it to run out of fuel while I was at a Love’s? The engine is getting around 11 miles per gallon. I’m guessing the gen is pulling around 1/2 gallons per hour.

The ride is impressive and its sweet spot is between 60mph – 65mph. There’s little if any push when passing or being passed by large trucks…very stable on the road. I can only guess the rounded shape of the roof and rear are the positive attributes to the way it cuts through the wind. I did learn that both car and truck drivers were very polite on the road and always made space when passing or merging.

Through my search, I never thought I’d end up with a 34′ coach and definitely not one that’s almost as old as me! I’ll add that considering there’s no slides the layout on this bus is very manageable for two people. Considering that nearly five of those feet are in the baggage compartment and a few more in the engine bay, it’s even more amazing that it’s comfortable on the inside.

The only noise I noticed was from the mirror placement and I’m planning on moving them forward…that will also assist with visibility.

If I had a dollar for every time someone would take a photo, I’d have at least $78! That will be a start to the upgrades I’ll have performed over the next few weeks getting it prepared for the Florida great weather season!

My challenge now is attempting to figure out what size vehicle I can pull behind this bus. Input welcomed!

    Great looking bus Andy!

We rode in a passenger Flxible on Catalina island (CA) a few years ago as that’s what the tour company used (if they still do). They were really cool!

I don’t think the one we rode in had power steering either and we were on hilly curvy roads! You will need strong arms for sure!

I’ve watched all of your RV video’s, including the one on that Flxible and wondered what you were going to end up buying, you will be the highlight of any RV park that you stop in.

    Have fun!

Charles and I have been communicating. I asked what is the battery voltage when the Watchdog kicks in and maybe Jeff can answer that question. I’ve seen Auto-Starts as low as 10.8 before starting and that is the road to destroyed batteries. Not that Charles has that going on, but if the Watchdog starts at 60 – 70% of DOD (depth of discharge), the life cycles are going to be shorter than staying at or near 12.2 or 50%. Add in several deep discharges and the battery life is going to be shortened for sure.

You can see the cycles shortened in this graph.

As to Conditioning or Equalizing, I’ve done it with little effect, but you can try it and see if it has any benefit.

I forgot about those dead batteries. Depending on how often something like that happened that can be a contributing factor in the battery condition.

If you have an inverter that allows an equalizing charge you might restore some battery health. The Freedom 25 remote has dip switches on the rear of the panel that will allow you to manually do an equalization charge. I believe the battery manufacturer has information regarding that type charging and the allowable time which you control manually. I haven’t looked it up but you charge the batteries at about 15 volts for an extended period such as 8 hours. That help restore some life to the batteries. Tom may have better information than this.

    Charles said:

“But last month when I noticed the issue the batteries were charged (generator went to float when monitoring the output of the invertors) and then shut down generator and 6 hours later the batteries are dead and entire panel shut down. THat means that something else is wrong since the generator isn’t even charging the batteries.”

There’s been one deep cycle it sounds like, after the symptomes started.

Do you have a watch-dog to start the generator, or are you using an AGS feature on the inverters?

    Chris and Jim,

First, so sorry to hear of the damage. Secondly, I’m glad that you are going to pursue a claim.

I know it will take time but I think it will be worth it to try and recoup your losses.

Wishing you guys the best of luck,

    Yikes!

As for Prevost Nashville, The only thing they asked us was to leave bus when it was being put up on hoist. Once back on the ground, we were free to enter and leave bus as needed and walk around the shop. They drove the bus into the bay but when we were ready to leave the body shop manager said to just back it out. Which I find interesting that they let me drive it back out. I’m totally fine with them driving it into and out of a bay. That way when they rip a mirror off, it’s on their watch.

Any chance the inverters are stuck on Equalization charge? Equaliztion should not exceed 15.5 for Lifelines.

You could also have one or more bad batteries. Contact me if you need battery help.

Thermal Runaway is also a possibility.

Charging could possibly push the internal temperature up to the point where the self-heating process takes over and thermal runaway begins. Charging at a rate of charge (amps) in excess of the manufacturers recommended limit will also raise the internal temperature significantly. Similarly, an excessive discharge will also cause the cells within a battery to heat up, and if the ambient temperature is high, then the critical temperature will be arrived at faster than in a cooler environment.
