As some may know, we have had 4 busses since 2001. The first was a CC XLV with 3 rooftops and dash air, which was supplemented with CC version of OTR. When it worked, it was good, but we weren’t in temps over 100. We didn’t have much trouble cooling but only had the coach for 11 months, It had other issues. The second coach was a Marathon XLII single slide, with 4 cruise airs and dash air We ran 2 cruise airs off inverter and were OK in the humid Indiana air of Indy 500.
The 3rd coach was a 2000 Marathon H3-45 with 4 cruise airs, and dash air. We ran 2 cruise airs on inverter with dash air. In Baker Ca, travelling in 105 degrees, we were a bit warm, and the dogs were panting.
The current coach, altho a 40 footer has OTR, Holy Cow, what a huge difference in cooling over what we had.
The cooling we get from the OTR was shockingly cold!!!. In the heat and humidity of Texas heading to the Austin POG, instead of panting, we had to thaw the dogs out. The OTR is by far the best for us.
Heading to Tennessee from Oshkosh last summer, our OTR sprung a Freon leak. We had to cool the coach with the genset and 3 on board cruise airs,. We stopped at Prevost Nashville for a new seal on the compressor, but things were working, so we continued home thru 115 degree OAT in Missouri with the genset white hot working so hard running the cruise airs, and the coach inside temp was 101 degrrees. We were just HOT!!
As mentioned above, after the full repair, and heading to Austin POG ,we were shocked just how cold OTR is, and fuel mileage in no different from operating cruise airs with the genset, or running the OTR, Remember our vintage of coach has the 8V-92, and performance difference was negligible. My 2 cents.

My personal experiance owning 2 Marathon’s our first was a 99 XLV45 with dash air and 3 cruise airs, only one time with that bus did we get an over temp shut down with the cruise airs and I think if I knew then what I know now might not have happened. Our 2nd and current Marathon is an 01 XLII non slide 45 with 3 cruise airs. We drive from West to the East thru AZ, NM, OK and Texas in the middle of the summer and it can get well over 100 most of the trip, I have always run the dash air and 2 cruise airs off the 2 Trace4000 invertors and the wife and kids complain about being to cold! We keep the blinds down and the ac units on so the bus doesn’t heat soak. I always have my ac units checked yearly to make sure they are going to perform there best, keep the filters cleaned, blow out any dirt, dust and cluter from the condensor units below. I feel that if you know how to use what you have and everything is performing at 100% it all works.
I have never had roof air or OTC so I am not an expert with those but I know the Marathon systems and feel they work just fine, I am not sure we have ever had to fire up the gen set to run all 3 cruise airs but I would have no problem doing that if the occasion should come up.
My opinion and I am a little biased toward Marathon so that might have something to do with my opinion! -
I really think there are vast improvments in the XL2 vs the XL and how well the cruiseairs work.

I would like to thank everyone for all the great info.
I almost went to Florida this past week to look over, buy, and drive home a Prevost. At the last second I called the seller and told him I didn’t know enough about Prevosts yet to make a smart purchase decision.
We must be crazy to want to start learning a new to us make of coach.
For now we’ll keep reading and learning.
We will contact the folks near us in Boerne, TX and take them up on their invite to come have a look-see.
