I have been told Direct’s improvement will take them bac kto all channels being on one satellite. This will make in motion dishes the dish of choice again. Not sure about how they are going to do it. So in 2017 we can all replace our Traveller with a new in motion dish.

I wonder if my old in-motion dish will work for HD again. I also have a stationary HD dish if it doesn’t.

We left Jacksoville on our trip to Breckenridge last Tuesday. First night we stopped overnight on I-10 near Pensacola. Turned the Trac Star on everything worked perfectly as usual. Next night in Louisiana turned it on again and never got a signal. It just kept cycling on Locked Verify. Same in Oklahoma last night. And Kansas tonight. So, I thought maybe I should look on the Foum for anyone having a similar problem and wound up reading this thread. I still don’t understand why it worked fine as usual and now it doesn’t, but it sounds like it needs to have a program update. So, we will be in Breckenridge at Tiger Run for the next month. Does anyone know of a resource nearby to reprogram the thing. Thanks in advance.

Sounds very similar to my experience last year. It would operate like normal and seem to lock-on, but the receiver never got a signal. After some digging on Google I found these instructions. My KVH somehow switched over to Dish settings and wouldn’t lock-on to the directv satellite. Hope this helps…here is the link in case the screenshot is not legible.

We took out the old KVH and installed a Winguard Travler. It is NOT in motion, but we installed a Dish Hopper and a Dish Joey. The Dish Hopper has a built in DVR – so we could record the movies on the DVR and play them back while in motion or if we got to a campsite that had trees blocking our satellite view. Another great option that can be added to the Dish Hopper is an OTA (over the air) adapter. One end plugs into your over the air antenna cable and the other end plugs into the USB port on the Hopper. The Hopper then automatically incorporates all of the local (over the air) channels into your Dish TV menu and even displays the program schedules on the local channels. You NO longer have to go to each TV and have them re-programmed to search local channels each time you drive into a new area of the USA. You also get High Definition (HD) viewing. The Winegard Travler pick up ALL THREE satellites at the same time, so there is NO DELAY whe you switch channels on your TV (you can turn the Winegard Travler off once it finds the satellites)
DIsh has a wireless JOEY you can install on remote tv’s too. Like in the basement of your coach or out by your picnic table.
And, if you want to go one step further, you can hook up your Hopper to a CradlePoint MDR95 Router. This is a wireless router that allowes you to connect up to 16 devices (to the router via a hard ethernet connection or a wirelss connection) and the other end of this router wirelessly connects to your wi fi card (or your phone as a personal hotspot). Then you can install (for free) the DISH ANYWHERE program on your IPAD or Tablet or Phone and watch anythnig (live or recorded) that is on your DISH Hopper within 150 feet circumformance your coach.
The CradlePoint router will enable you to take one “paid campsite internet connection” and convert that into many free internet connection points for your Tablet and your Phone and your wife’s Tablet and Phone.
Also, there is a great app that you can buy for your phone or tablet that lets you look at the satellites in the sky – to see if you have a clear path (with nothing in the path like trees or a building). It is called DP AR (DishPointer). Some other programs are called Dish Align, Satellite Look and SAToolsDirecTV. These programs do NOT require you to have an internet or cell phone connection while using. They use the compass / GPS in your device and helps you to find clear views of the satellites in the sky before you park your coach.

i have been following this thread for a few days. Glad to see Linda got her tracstar updated.
i have the same issue(s) with our tracstar SD setup. We have Direct HD & could not watch HD programming with our old sat. Right now I use a “portable” reflector dish at my site. The tracstar is a giant weight I carry on the roof. I had a plan but, I now wonder…..
The original plan was get the traveler setup for HD programs. We really like Direct HD. Once we switched from SD to HD, we like it to much to go back. In motion is not a big deal for us. I drive & Pam is the Copilot & the Navigator. The Cats are our passengers and could care less about TV.
In the plan, we would need to switch to Dish from Direct. The reason for that switch is that direct tv “portable” HD is not portable. It a huge reflector and a PITA to haul around. I would be able to have a dish HD portable to augment the traveler in case we had tree/obstacle blockage. Then I read Diane’s thread and start wondering….
IF i get a KVH RV1, I can then have the flexibility to go Dish or Direct when needed. I’d have HD while stationary and sat in motion if we had family traveling with us. With the traveler it’s one system or the other, no switching between providers.
I’d keep direct TV HD and open a Dish RV pay as you go account. Only using dish when I’m signal blocked on the KVH. Yes, that means an extra receiver but it gives us flexibility as we get set to do the North America Tour.
When/if the industry makes a true DirectTV portable HD, I’d be good to go. Until then, we have our HD connection and flexibility.

and you have to have your fix of this show or that show, why even have a satellite dish?
we have the original KVR dome (2007 vintage) and never bothered to activate it. Then I became intrigued with Dish pay as you go HD service and installed the Traveler. This has worked for us and we love HD and would not ever consider going to SD. We have had great Dish customer service, too, as long as you go through their bulletin board. But, we never watched enough TV to warrant the expense of paying for a gazillion channels we would never watch. So we cancelled the service.
Of course, we do still watch some TV from time to time but our needs can be satisfied very easily by watching online. We do have unlimited data for $1350 per month so we do not care how many gigs we use. Typically, 60-100 GB a month. Very little of that is for watching TV, though.
Anyways, I do know that Diane must have her TV in all of the 9 bathrooms she has in her house and on the 3 boats and the bus.
We do just not care enough about TV.
The Internet provides us with enough distractions. Too much, really. -

Hmmm… 9 bathrooms in my house I don’t think so (and thank goodness) and only 2 boats… now I have that straight where do you get unlimited interenet for $135 month??? I have downgraded to 18 or 19 receivers now !!
I watch a lot of sports…
