We are going to replace our Tracstar next week with a Winegard T4 in motion Sat dish… supposed to be the best replacement for us?

Jeff… Isn’t this the one you recommended? sure hope so. We were informed by many updating the Tracstar software is temporary fix only… if it even works at all… also told that the software update has not worked well if at all especially in the East Texas and Louisiana area !!

I will let you all know how it goes… the installer is http://www.Sats2Go.com out of Houston and is said to be the best in Texas so here’s hoping !! Wish were were at Jeff’s for this !!

    Cheers… Diane

    Diane:

Likewise, we are in the process of changing ours to the new KVH RV-1 dome. My understanding is our coaches are wired with one coax as is required with the new KVH RV-1 vs. the Winegard which requires two coax cables. This information per Bill Doherty with Liberty.

We are having connection issues and as we understand, the existing Trac Star dome unit will not be supported after 12/31/16…..

Still considering installing the Winegard satellite dish for fixed purposes but will endure the dome change out first…

Best solution appears to stop watching TV in the bus and revert to Jon’s flip phone for all contact with the outside world!!!!

I will let you know how this goes for us….

    Best Regards,

Dianne, the best thing about having Jeff install…he uses a stainless mount plate that accomplishes two things…far less roof intrusions and the LNB doesn’t drag. Geo.

I have been gazing into my crystal ball and based on my Neanderthal thinking the images may be wrong, but I think we are almost there when it comes to completely doing away with satellite, and putting it on the shelf next to the 8 track player, the VHS, and the cable receiver box.

All TV will likely come via the internet, and whether it is the phones or another device that provides the signal, it is not going to come from a satellite dish on the roof.

I almost think if our TracStar pukes we will just watch old Columbo and Barney Miller DVDs until the providers sort things out and allow us to do away with the satellite dome and receiver.

For the very limited hours we actually watch TV in the bus I doubt if we will miss satellite. I do like the music going down the road.

    Thanks Guys…. Hey Jeff ??

When I talked to Jeff he mentioned using the new Winegard Satellite (I think)… I hope he sees this and replies.

I am not a KVH fan due bad service and experiences in the past.

I loved the Tracstar and am sick about having to change over.

Geo… yes I wish Jeff was closer to us !!

Jeff …. the Winegard is called the RoadTrip T4 2035T …( the T4 2000T is the white and the T4 2035T is the black one) is this the one? It’s their latest model. There is an older version which is the 4000T or 4035T but it is discontinued now… the T4 is quieter and faster according to Winegard.

    Cheers Diane

Diane, we have the 4035T, it was installed about a year and a half ago(figures that it’s already updated). It has worked well for us, it doesn’t always track when we’re in-motion, but using it that way is a rarity anyway.

    Diane,

You are aware that the dome will be digital only on Direct TV, not HD, right…

    Tom…

Yes no HD with DTV in motion….. we can add an HD (stationary) but not sure whether to bother with it or not… I will NEVER switch to Dish Network so that rules out some otpions.Any suggestions Tom …. hope you got the check too??

    Thanks… Diane

I do not have a issue with the new KVH dish like Peter is using. Past with KVH was a real PITA for their support and ways of repairing. Winegard has been used for several years as they were the only one in the market for the most part after TracStar got out of the RV end of it. The Winegards have been doing a good job for several years and one of the things was they were loud, which was addressed with the newer model. Running the power wire is not a big deal. Like everything there are options out there. However if you have a HD dish then it is probally a Winegard….so why not keep it the same with your in motion

    Jeff…

Thanks a million… that was just what I needed to know !!

We had a KVH (LM) on an older coach way back and they were rude and horrible to deal with also lots of “unhappy” folks using the marine units.. glad the new ones are better… but hard for me to get past “crappy” service people…. they were so rude.

Things do change and I am glad they do so I am not trashing anyone here.

Have an awesome days my friends and again “thanks Jeff” !!

    Cheers, Diane

If I had it do all over again, like my 01 Liberty, I would buy a Wineguard HD fixed dome (single coax no power wires) and matching receiver and tell Direct to take a hike. I liked the option with Dish to turn on/off the service as needed and the ease of changing local stations when traveling.

The both suck, but I prefer Dish.

    UPDATE:

I drove the bus to Livingston TX today and met up with the Sats2Go guy… I was going to have him install the Winegard and he talked me out of it telling me that the latest software does work everywhere if it’s the right one and installed properly!! He charges $200 to do it and says it will work or he’ll take it off the price of the new unit which was going to be $1800 installed. He said it will only work with DTV NOT with DishNetwork.

This software he says…. makes the Tracstar search instead of stopping on the Lock Verify screen it will continue to search for the correct Satellite…. Also said it works well everywhere… and it’s not true that it doesn’t work in East TX and Louisiana like I was informed previously. He went on to say that the Tracstar unit is a great and robust unit ….so if its working and doesn’t need parts it’s best to keep it..Parts are not available anymore… DTV’s big changes are supposed to be coming Dec 2017 at that point it won’t work any more and rumor has it that DTV will then have In Motion HD that will be awesome and new dishes will be on the market so we are going to hang in there for right now and see what happens. I figured that we had nothing to lose… he could have made more money today installing the new unit.

Interestingly enough he also said that he prefers the KVH RV1 over any other sat dish… and he agrees that KVH are “butts” to deal with but he likes their newer units a lot and they work very well and are a very simple install going behind the Tracstar….. said you can also add numerous TVs to the KVH very easily..

So there you have it folks… saved a bunch of money (I hope) today and learned a lot (I think) !!

The guy was great to work with and appeared to KNOW his stuff well… was also very familiar with the Prevost and many of the conversions.

I hope this helps a few people.

    Cheers.. Diane

Did he mention who was going to be providing the InMotion HD units for Directv? Now you have really thrown a wrinkle into our plans of changing TV’s and satdish to the stationary Winegard HD for Directv. What to do, what to do..

    Tom & Bill…

No he didn’t….but talked like they will all have new technology and work… no specific brand that I was made aware of. Probably same dishes with upgraded software… they just have to know what sats to log onto.

I think he would have said that the current sats wouldn’t work if that was the case… I mean the current new sat dishes.

    Hang in there boys !!

    Cheers, Diane
