Guess I’m one of the older members of the group. I went through Navy flight training in 1950. flew the F4U Corsair in my first squadron then transitioned to the F9F and got 26 missions in the Korean war. Helicopter training and flew Hueys in the Veitnam war. Retired from the military in 1961 and stared the first Helicopter Ambulance service in Florida. Ended up with 8,000hrs helo and 9,000hrs fixed wing. Received my Master Airman award in 2014.

Very impressive Ray. My time in Vietnam was Field Artillery 67/68 always wished I was up there with you instead of in the dirt. Started flying in 73, great memories.

I got the bug post retirement. After just 17 hours in a C172, I bought a 1987 Beechcraft Bonanza F33A. The insurance companies were not amused ($$$) but it was a great way to learn flying a high-performance, complex airplane. I finished my private pilot ticket a few months later without a mishap. My user name “Threegreens” hints at it.

I owned 13 airplanes from beech 3 bonanza 2 barons 2 Dukes A Cessna 310Q 1 Cessna 421 with 2 turbo prop 625HP. 42 years of flying is over the me, it was fun, zero accident.

I will admit unlike yours which moves relative to both the ground and airframe mine wasn’t as talented and only moved relative to the ground.

Unless you are a rocket, blimp, a hot air balloon or a falling object, lift is typically provided by a wing that is moving.

Even bullets start to fall immediately upon leaving the gun barrel because they have movement, but no wings. You gotta have both.

We used to get visits from F15s out of GSB when I was a controller at Cherry Point. It’s always been one of my favorite airplanes. By the way, whose idea was it to name an Air Force base “Seymour Johnson?”
