Scheduled coach service / maintenance on the way back to Michigan…
Since coach service up north is scattered, had to get a few thinks take care of…good stuff…al performed by professionals:
1. – replaced outside drive wheels/rims with new Alcoa at Love’s Fort Myers
– added Centrimatic on drive wheels at Love’s Fort Myers
2. – Marathon Coach – Techlink calibration(replaced Techlon 1113) DC / AMPS converter
3. – Replaced (3) starting to fog windows by good Prevost glass technician in Clearwater area:
– driver top of toll window, kitchen slider and bedroom fixed
4. – Prevost Jaks – oil change, air drier cartridge and valves, diff oil change, trans seal kit replaced
5. – AAP – replaced Salon Cruisair due to failing compressor and tuned all other units(thanks to Dana(tech) and Fred – very knowledgeable / honest and good folks )
Left Naples 7:30AM Thursday June 7th, arrived home in Michigan June 14th about noon…

In one of your postings you talked about Michelin new suggested tire life (5 vs 7 years) discussions at West Palm Beach Prevost show and certification process, can you please resend the link? My tires are coming close to 5 years since installation, all looking great but will want to verify with Michelin…

I don’t have a link and the new Michelin policy regarding tires was presented at a seminar that I did not attend.
We expect Michelin will be presenting this new policy information at our October maintenance seminar on 10/13 and 10/14.
The significant change is instead of using age to pro-rate the cost of tires replaced due to manufacturing defects they are now using remaining tread depth as the means of determining their participation. That is obviously very beneficial for us since few of us wear out our tires before they wear out.

Tires Back from the Prevost-Stuff show in West Palm, Beach. Good time, lots to see and they even had some educational programs. One was put on by Michelin.
There was good news, great news and bad news from Michelin. The Good News is that they have extended the Manufacture Warranty from 5 years to 7 years from date of installation. The life cycle of the 315 and 365 tire is 10 years.
The DOT Manufacture date on the sidewall sets the 10 year life cycle date. The installation date sets the 7 year Warranty start date. Therefore, if you find a new tire that has a DOT date 3 years or less from the install date the 7 year warranty will fall within the 10 year life cycle. Yep, this was asked at the seminar and said to be true.
The Great News is that the 7 year Prorated Warranty is based on Tread Depth. Since we time out our tires instead of wearing them out, we should get a really good exchange if we are in need of warranty service.
The Bad News is that when Michelin manufactures a run of 365 tires, Prevost Bus receives the tires first. The remaining tires, if any, are then sent to the distributors.
I believe the above is correct, but I had two Prevost Experts (their opinion of themselves, not mine) behind me who talked during the entire presentation and my hearing being that of an old codger, I may have misunderstood something. So, if any one in attendance heard something different, feel free to correct me.
P.S. Store your spare tires flat not standing.

I was on the Michelin web site yesterday. They show an X Line Energy Z Coach and an X Multiway 3D XZE, are both designed for coach use. Mine are 315/80R22.5. What are the tangible benefits of one over the other?
Mine are not yet timed out but will be in the next 1.5 years.

To determine the4 benfits of one tire over the other you have to compare the specs and information on each one and compare that to how you use your coach.
Michelin makes a wide variety of tires in the same size and often the tire design is to deliver a certain benefit such as lower rolling resistance, longer life of tread, fuel economy, etc. I have noticed also some tires designed for local driving might have a lower speed limit than a highway tire.
The information is there so you just have to see if one seems better for how you use or drive your coach.

Who did your window repair? Cost? I replaced the fixed portion of a slider with a Prevost supplied window ($700) and the tint has been changed from my original windows.

I ordered the windows from Prevost based on VIN#, small fixed window $456, no difference in tint.
Total cost to replace (window and labor) $650.

Dorel – Thanks for being proactive and posting this info about the change of tire info and how to go about making sure you can be “in warranty” after 5 years.
Im a few years away fro mthe 5 year mark, but i think it is prudent we all consider at least a annual inspection at the minimum even prior to arriving at questionable service date…..cheap insurance.

Does anyone know what the safe tread depth should be at before you have to replace your tires?

The tires have wear bars. I have never met a motor home conversion owner that ever wore out a set of tires.
If you want to know where the wear bars are and you have Michelin tires look carefully around the outer edge of the sidewall at the tread and look for the little Michelin man logo. In line with that logo on a number of places around the tire will be wear bars in the grooves in the tread.
I should win a trivia contest for that little tidbit. I have no idea why I even remembered it.

USDOT rules for CMV’s is 4/32 for steer tires and 2/32 for all others.
