Storing 2010 marathon without power
Greetings everybody,long time lurker,first post.i am considering the purchase of a 2010 marathon h….in discussing the techlink and crestron systems,the concern came up about powering the systems down while in storage due to not having 110 power at my storage barn…..how big of an issue is this???so far it’s been indicated that those systems are absolutely not meant to be turned off and on and it could cause issues….please tell me what you know….thanks much joe bauer fiberglass coach owner now,eventual prevost owner

Our electrical systems do get shut down. Any time batteries are replaced the coach or portions of the coach are shut down.
Assuming freezing or environmental concerns are not a consideration follow the procedure your converter calls for putting the coach to sleep. Depending on the length of the shut down all you have to be concerned about is if the house and or chassis batteries need an occasional recharge.
If the coach is stored outdoors and it has slide seals that must be inflated to prevent water damage then the coach cannot be shut down.

thanks much for the info….my storage is inside a barn,just no power in the barn,but yes it’s out of the elements…..presently with my American heritage I turn everything off and about once a month go run the generator to top off the batteries….just concerned about numerous times each year shutting everything off and what effect that would have on the crestron and tech link(sp?)systems…… thanks again joe bauer franklin Tennessee

The reason I asked about your location was availability of bus barn stall here in KC. MO.
60ft by 16ft, water, 50 amp electric, inside sewer dump, heated, entire bldg air conditioned, epoxy painted floor.

I shut mine down for new batteries as prescribed it will not reboot no water pump bath heat kitchen heat bath fan instant hot water

I am not familiar with the specifics of how Marathon suggests a shut down. But usually the procedures are not onerous. Sometimes on conversions rebooting the control systems is a bit of an issue, but after you have done a number of shut downs and start ups you get to know the procedure and should have no issues.
The chassis is just a matter of shutting off the master switch in the rear.
In freezing weather you could have an issue with no power but there are some ways to work around that problem, maybe not ideal solutions, but possible.
The only caution is to make sure you follow Marathon’s suggested procedure exactly. I am sure if you call they will walk you through the correct sequence of events.

I have a 24×60 available in Jacksonville, FL. It is gated, cameras, 50 amp, water, high ceiling. Easy access from the interstates and enter and exit the facility. It also has a clubhouse with TVs, bar, etc ,etc to hang out in with other RV folks.

One time I called Marathon to turn off our coach. It was, turn off the inverters at the control panels (you push that mode button until they are set to off) then, turn off the 12v and 24v battery switches in the engine bay side door.
I said…. that’s all?? He said “yes.”
Though, I turned off my computer and some other things first… but it was pretty simple.
this is what I remember anyway… it was a year ago…. or two… hard to remember!

It’s pretty straight forward for our 03/04 vintage, but I believe there is more involved with a multiplex coach. Jon?

I would think turning it off is much simpler than turning it back on.

The Marathon Owners Manual has the procedure for storing the coach without power.

Without looking at a multiplex owner’s manual I don’t know for sure if shutting down the chassis requires a specific procedure.

We have found on Marathons, even if you turn off, shutdown all systems and features per instructions, there are parasite feeders which drain your house batteries. Items such as inverters fans which are hard wired to house batteries . Shy of disconnecting your house battery cables, you can’t total stone cold shut down a Marathon. Ours were model year 2000 , but newer coaches imho could be more difficult. Recommendation: get 50 amp 220or a minimum 30 amp 220v service to you barn. You’re asking for a gremlin attack not keeping coach live. You had great luck with running your American Heritages genset once a month. A marathon will deplete it’s house Batteries in a matter of a few days
