    Gil,

Yes we can operate the macerator (you have one, right?) and the dump valve while parked, driving, engine running or not. But possibly because of Mango getting a bath in holding tank waste as he attempted his first hookup when the pup strepped on the button, our coaches now required the entry of a password before it is possible to open a valve or turn on a macerator.

I’m fully in favor of flogging folks that abuse the ability to operate the holding tank drain anytime, anywhere. And yes I have caps in place any time I am not connected to a sewer on both my macerator outlet and my main tank drains.

As to that password, try just hitting the ‘Enter’ button. I’ll bet it still works like mine does. I found that out after in inadvertent finger slip.

    Jon,

My last coach had a macerator pump and I initially thought it was good thing. Just having that small hose and the ability to pump slightly up hill seemed great. Then the day came, it happens to everyone eventually. The pump got jambed. It was easily fixed and didn’t require getting my hands dirty, but it could have.

As I’ve said before, Country Coach wasn’t big on adding unnecessary automation or features just because others did. That’s not to say CC didn’t install macerators; just that they were an option.

I would never go back to a macerator, unless I went back to boating. The big hose will drain both tanks so much faster than the macerator. I also come to realize that no sewer hose is clean, but when you drain the gray water tank (you do have the RVIA required Gray tank, right?) last you can get the hose clean of almost everything from the black tank.

I just can’t imagine why the sewer valve activation switch is anywhere except the tank drain bay. I suppose it might be handy inside if you forget to drain the tank while taking a shower and the water begins to back-up. Yet another reason why RVIA requires a seperate black and gray tank.

Tom, yep, you got it. I listed you as a reference. Just too funny.

I hope everyone knows that Jon and I are just keeping each other thinking.

If your are hooked up and need to dump the tank, as in having been in a campground for an extended period, and it is pouring down rain it is very convenient to be able to push a button from inside the coach to dump. It has happened to us, and until it did I saw no benefit but now can appreciate the feature.

I have used the macerator on rare occasions, but when I have used it I really needed it. It is very convenient when there are no conventional sewer connections but you have access to a plumbing cleanout such as when parked at a private home. If I did not have one I probably would have been able to get along without it.

I operate my mazerator at least 3-4 times a year to keep it working right, sort of like the generator neeeds to be run under load every chance you get! gary

It appears that you guys with electric dump valves might have ultimate cure for tailgaters…

You have no idea how tempting that can be, but since my valves are always capped you can imagine what happens the next time I want to hook up to the sewer connection.
