Have you checked your front axle weight Dale?

With your long wheelbase it is very easy to end up with an overloaded steer axle. At one time Prevost had to deal with some conversions adding weight to the steer axle in excess of the limits so a kit was developed that added a second set of shocks to the front axle. That doesn’t cure the overload, but it apparently addressed the porpoising.

No, I actually haven’t. I will do that. What leads me to believe is has something to do with the shocks is that it didn’t do it with the old shocks. I don’t know what they were, but I remember that they were blue.

Can I weigh the bus on the certified scales at truck stops? I know they are set up for three axles, but I’m sure those are on a truck? How do you do it for a bus?

On a 3 platform Cat scale when you drive on it you can see the 3 different platforms. The 1st and 2nd platform is where you want to stop with your tag on the 1st platform and your drive will be on the 2nd platform and your steer will be on the 3rd platform. You can see in your mirror where the break between the 2 platforms are at to stop.

Get out of the bus because you won’t be able to reach the button to call inside thru your little window. Walk back and make sure you look to see if you split your tag and drive axle on the 2 platforms. Go press the call button and she will ask your company or bus number. Pull off and go inside and she will give you a weight ticket and you will know what each axle weighs.

If you have a hard time splitting your tag and drive axle on 2 scales just pull up and put the rear wheels on 1 platform and the steer on the other. This will only give you 2 weights and gross but it will tell you whats on your steer.

    Dale,

Having the weights is going to pay dividends in another way. You will know the correct tire pressures for each axle so in addition to helping you diagnose a potential problem you may find whatever pressures you were keeping the tires at might be al wrong.

Some also have a CB channel posted at the scale to the fuel desk.
