Thanks Milo. You’re pretty much the halfway point, thanks for the offer. A bus conversion like this is new to me and I’d be interested to see what you’re doing. And maybe borrow a cup of brake fluid.
I’ve got a blog that I’ll be updating with the trip and our route and I’ll post it here when we get going.
But the plan is to leave CA probably Sunday the 14th. Maybe passing thru about the 16th if you’ll be around.

Sounds like an adventure, indeed.
About 1985, I bought a 1952 AEC London double decker out of a field in Casper, Wy. I talked the seller into ‘test driving’ it to Denver where I picked it up with a motorhome and my family. We drove both rigs hop-scotching during the day (top speed of the AEC was about 45-50 mph) and staying in rv parks at night. Took about 3 days to get from Denver to Lake Havasu City, Az. It overheated regularly until the thermostat stuck shut and was removed. After that, it only overheated occasionally as long as I kept uphill speed to about 25.

Jay, with some advance notice I should be able to meet up with you at a rest area or a stopping point. Otherwise, I can put my lawn chair next to the freeway and wave as you go by. You may want to stop at Marathon Coach or Paradise Coach interiors in Coburg Oregon. Paradise Coach has converted several old coaches. Flxible, Silversides and Eagles. He is an artist, the interior work is amazing. Marathon coach does tours. I would be happy to lend you some brake fluid. You will need to show me where it goes in the air brake system. I look forward to seeing the H5-60.

Do you plan to convert it into a motorhome? Sounds very interesting!
I went looking for H5-60 conversions again because of this thread and found a couple of entertainer-style coaches, but no motorhomes.
I did come across this. Never seen a wagon-trailer behind a Prevost before.

BD, we’re gonna turn this into a mobile sales floor for my friend’s business. He does a lot of events across the country (Scottish games, festivals, etc) but flying in and out and setting up tents is lame.
It’ll be pretty wild. When we’re done it’ll look more like a 1930’s Streamliner locomotive than a bus.

Jay, they are doing the interior on a flexible with an old elegant train car theme at Paradise Coach interiors. They are close to completing the project.

Does anybody know offhand what size the lugnuts are? It might sound stupid but I’d like to put on some indicators-

I think on that vintage with stud centered wheels the outer nuts are 1 1/2. I don’t remember the size of the square head on the inner nuts on the drive axle.

Well, the bus runs pretty good. Everything’s topped off, the tires are properly inflated and the brakes are great. Drove it around for a while and we leave S.F. in the am. I’m guessing it’ll be pretty slow up the passes, though. If you’re traveling north on I5 tomorrow and Sunday, I’d like to apologize in advance.

We rode in a Prevost articulating bus back in ’97 with a tour group starting near Vancouver Washington to Fairbanks Alaska, then a train trip from Fairbanks to Anchorage (ending the trip). The coach ride through the Yukon was absolutely beautiful (August).
The bus was set up with passenger seats in the front part and an entertainment/couch area in the rear with the bathroom. The bus was led by a ‘leader’ car with a big sign on the roof saying ‘large vehicle approaching’ (or something like that) as the roads were very narrow and curvy in some area’s.
That bus trip brings back good traveling memories!

So far, so good. At about Redding and plan on stopping overnight in Corvallis. Coolant and tranny both steady at about 190. I’m sure it’ll be slow over the passes, but this rides great! Very smooth.
