A CCW permit allows you to carry a concealed weapon on your person. It has nothing to do with nor is it needed to have a weapon in your bus. The bus is like your home. No CCW needed. After having said that, I realize that there are a very few states that license individuals to even own a firearm.

Why anyone would want to live in any one of them is beyond me.

Jon said: “What about those of us who do not have a CCW permit and are not about to get one?”

Kinda depends upon how risk adverse the bus owner is…you could always sit in your bus barn & bring up different sights on Google Earth & project it on your big screen. With the added benefit of having a very low fuel bill for the trip!! Somehow it just wouldn’t be the same, I suspect.

I’m pretty sure my shotgun is legal, but I still view my ignition key as my best protection device.

My reluctance to get a CCW is I don’t want to have any more government required licenses or forms of registration than we already have. I have zero intent to ever carry a gun. If I feel I am somewhere where my comfort level mandates carrying a weapon, I am in the wrong place.

Like Jon, I have no desire to carry a weapon on my person. That being said, I am leaning towards getting a shot gun to carry on the bus. I believe that they are legal anywhere (maybe not Canada), but will check when I get home to Florida. I have to this point never been into guns and I am not a hunter, but sadly in this climate no longer feel safe traveling. I believe that whoever said that the sound of a shot gun being racked is a great deterrent to someone even if they have a pistol. I will have them train me and Corey how to use and fire it and then hope that we never have to use it again. Geo.

Geo: Make sure you load the shotgun correctly. I think Buddy said a seven shot semi-automatic is the weapon of choice and the first two or three shells should be 00 buckshot to clear out the cabinetry from the bedroom to create a clear shooting lane and then slugs to drive them back through the windshield and out of the coach. Use wasp spray for clean up.

Buddy … did I remember correctly?

I would be very concerned about being on the road around the time of the Nov. Elections especially election day and after. Don’t be traveling on the road or in Metro areas. Be as rural as possible. If the election goes wrong for the left there will be very bad riots in the Cities and middle size towns and no one will be spared. The left and the Marxists will go nuts and Prevosts will be a target.

No gun or grenade launcher will help if your in the middle of a mob; stay rural, stay at home, stay vigilant.

Michael, I tried to order one of the Byrna guns but since Shawn Hanity said something about it on his show, the company is running 10 weeks or longer with their shipping.

I would have left one on order but they want to charge my credit card at time of order and not time of shipment so I told them no thank you.

Really neat weapon, but in a situation that required me to use it, I think I would rather have a more lethal weapon.

Dick I did carry a shotgun in the bus.

A Beretta M2 with a 6 shot extension tube on it for a total of 9 shots.

I also had a Charter Arms “Judge” a six shot revolver with 3″ chambers.

Had it loaded with Winchester Defender ammo, 1 slug followed by three or so flat round copper pellets. Would be good for close range as apposed to a long gun.

I realize a shot gun with buck shot or slugs could be very dangerous in close quarters in an RV park.

Any flying bullets in an RV park are going to be dangerous, but I never fear for our safety in an RV park. But in rest areas, truck stops, Walmart, etc it is potentially risky.

Michael, The most shameful part of your post is the absolute truth of it! Some people in this country have lost their minds. I’d not consider a road trip today without a firearm or two in my bus. I’m especially packing when I take my bus up to Jeff’s. But that guy is fearless, something about “Go ahead, make my day… Do you feel lucky, we’ll do yah punk”? And I hate how he smiles when he says that.

I told Jon when leaving Jeff’s that he emptied my pockets. And Jon says “You left there with pockets”?

Everyone must make their own decision as to defend or crank the bus and leave. I will choose to leave absolutely every time that I can.

If you choose to carry a shotgun for emergencies, then consider a pistol-grip shotgun. They pack a punch, ring loud and clear when loading, are easy to handle and point in confined spaces and fit in small places. Mossburg makes a great one. Normally I would go for 12 gauge, but with the pistol grip, 20 gauge is easier on the wrist.
