Your Florida permit is not good in all 48 states. It is not good in Tennessee where I live. The only permit good in all 48 states that I am aware of is the retired law enforcement permit which I have. It is call a “LEOSA” permit enacted by Congress HB 214 I believe.
A legal permit may be the least of your problems if you use deadly force, even if you are clearly justified. You will most likely be indicted and you will have to defend you use of force in a court of law. The cost to defend yourself could easily exceed $100,000. That is why you need insurance.
I have Second Call Defense insurance. There are other good policies. Do your research. What I like is 24 hour access to a lawyer. They will bail you up to $10,000 and they will defend you all the way. It cost about $300. Good piece of mind these days.

I’ve never been a gun owner. In my 60 years I’ve never seen the need. What with my recent foray into the RV hobby along with the current political climate I am now sensing the need for it. Thanks for the insight on the insurance. That was something the CCW course leader didn’t mention and I feel he should have.

I hope we all realize and understand our greatest protection is the ignition key.
We always attempt when not in a campground to stop at places where we will be safe. A rest area with 24 hour security is one of the places but it could also be a Cracker Barrel. We don’t wander around outside our coach and we never let any one in our coach.
Regardless of where we are however, if anything gives me a reason for concern we drive away. We really miss our pups, but the mere fact we had to stop and walk them, or walk them before going to bed increased our risk. Now that they are gone our coach protects us, and the ignition key is our first line of defense.

Really good point. I’m gonna install an electrically operated dump valve with a dash mounted switch at the next opportunity. Who makes the best electric dump valves?

If you are going to use the holding tank as a defense mechanism what is needed is a full bus perimeter spray system located at roof level and a high pressure high volume pump in the tank drain.
While a full perimeter spray system would discourage bad guys, I cannot think of a better way to assure isolation during this time of a pandemic. Perhaps make the system automatic with motion sensors.

Way back when I used to ride my bicycle to work. The only problem was a dog along my route would see me as an opportunity to get some fresh meat.
After a couple of encounters I brought along a water pistol with ammonia in it. Maybe a bad guy wouldn’t object to smelling like salad dressing if I used a vinegar perimeter spray, but I can assure you even the whiff of ammonia was all it took for the dog to realize he didn’t need to be biting my ankles.
Personally I almost think I would prefer to smell like ammonia than the contents of my holding tank, especially given the fact the perimeter spray would by-pass the rose petal dispenser.

I also agree with the hornet/wasp spray observation. Whatever fits the particular situation. Options are always welcome in tough situations.
