Geez I still have Sony Trinatrons with great picture quality. Hard to give up on them.

No, Diane, I will have Liberty do it. No sound bar. Because I have an XL II the TV also doesn’t retract.
Ideally we keep the Bose speakers but cut the proprietary ends and use a separate receiver to push the sound to them.

Jon, your point is well taken. Ideally, I can fix or replace the existing unit for a few hundred dollars, no new programming is needed, and I’m back to where I started and, although still using 12 year old technology, I’m happy to have everything working again. That said, if a repair exceeds that cost I might as well upgrade while I have this forced opportunity. Looks like the new LCDs in that size are running about $700.

There is a fine line between repair or replace. I made the mistake of repairing the Amana in my previous coach 3 times. It was painted and trimmed to match the interior and I hated to put in something that was a mis-match which is probably akin to the struggle about avoiding reprogramming.
But after it failed the 4th time I bit the bullet and replaced it with a Bosch. I wish I had done that after the first failure, so there really is no right decision.

Don’t go LCD or LCD backlit, go LED, if you make a change.

Well I found myself in Walmart Saturday and walked out with a Samsung 46″ LED Smart TV for $548. I cannot say how big a difference it makes! The installation did take some time. Handmade brackets and drilling of the stock frame as well as some black painted trim but the end product looks like it has always been there. I will get Marathon to reprogram my remotes at some point. This week I will likely shop for its little brother for the bedroom.
