Gil, I replaced about 6 windshields on my 2 XL coaches over 22 years of owning them. With one exception they went well, and the exception was ironically when Rob Russell and I were putting it back in after his guys helped get the refrigerator into place.
I used a new gasket. Rob and I, both experienced in windshield replacement beat on it, soaped it, shoved it, and then had one of his men try to help us work it from inside the coach. We gave up and used the old gasket. 20 minutes later the glass was in.
I never used any sealant on a windshield. I also never had a leak.
If a windshield does not slip into place easily either the glass or gasket has a problem.

Me too Gil, done 2 myself with different coaches and was no
problem. There was no sealant in either of the ones I replaced.
We used to do them at Rallies and would make bulk purchases from
Prevost to get the best deal. We even did a couple seminars at
Rallies showing the ease of changing them out.Sounds like yours got the sealant treatment when installed and
most likely caused all the aggravation after being cooked in the sun
for a bunch of years. Removing sealant is a huge PIA.Now the XLII, no way I would attempt that!

Gil, I don’t know how professional they could have been. The guys from Prevo that were at Vegas for POG replaced ours. 3 min out, less than 10 in. No sealant, no leaks.

I remember seeing yours being replaced, but didn’t give yours much attention. It’s a bit curiuos to me why mine had sealant, why the company owner said Prevost’s of my vintage were sealed from the factory and why you, Tom, Jon, and others didn’t have sealant.

I don’t know this for a fact, but I would be surprised if they were sealed at the factory. I watched the Prevost Service Center folks several times install XL windshields and I don’t believe I ever saw any of them that needed sealant cut to remove the glass, and for certain I never saw any that were replaced and sealed with any kind of sealant.

A number of us have gone thru the effort of replacing a refrigerator, and it is not to be feared. The old one comes out through the windshield and the new one goes in. Windshield removal and replacement on your vintage coach is 30 minutes or less. It takes more time to strip the refrigerator of its doors and shelves.

Prevost Nashville has done about 3 for me and all in less than 30 min.
One in Dallas and it took a bit longer because I think the guy was new. Somehow I always seem to get the new guy, well, we’ve all been the new guy at something in our life before.

Fill me in on that 30 minute fridge replacement, I need to know the secret! I spent a couple days on it and thought I did good.

On my ’01 XL11 Thompson, I went thru the door with a counter depth refrigerator. just pulled the refrigerator doors, removed the passenger seat and took off the bus door handle. Out with the old in with the new. No big deal, no stress just a little muscle. We went with a stainless unit so we didn’t have to deal with the Vitracore.

30 minutes for the windshield. My refrigerator swap was an entire day because the opening had to be modified slightly and there was the work in opening the path through the living room so we could move the old one out and the new one in.
Then there was the work of taking the pieces off the old one so it fit through the window, the same with the new one, and then the reassembly.
But it was worth it.

Windshield swap in an XL is easy enough that someone with zero experience (me), along with guidance from someone who had been through it before, managed to do it successfully in an hour or so while entertaining the spectators in OKC.
In fact, it just might have been the least problematic, and least expensive, repair on our Liberty!

OK folks. Here I am 5 years later with the same problem with the same dead Amana refrigerator in a 2003 Marathon XLii. Jeff, I will be calling you Monday AM. That said, who has recently been through this and what Make/Model is recommended? Thanks in advance for the help.

Jeff just did 2 on Thursday so he can fix you up. Buddy and I supervised from the lawn chairs.
