Since we are back on refrigerator replacement; a tip for future replacements: Find out where the computer connection is on the new refrigerator you are getting, so hopefully you can figure out a way to get access to it without undoing the fasteners holding the refrigerator in place. Our GE refrigerator fried the board controlling the water and ice dispenser. Replacing the board was easy, but the computer access point was on top behind some coach cabinet supports. We managed to get the refrigerator out far enough to access to the port to clear fault codes and update the software, but it was a bear to get the refrigerator back in place. A few modifications to the cabinet support when the refrigerator was installed would only have required removing a dress-up panel for access.

Thanks you all. What’s the best replacement for the old Amana? I will be shipping a new unit to ETLC on Monday and headed that way. We intend on taking the bus to JazzFest in New Orleans so I’m gonna need refrigeration.

We picked out our GE refrigerator at Home Depot and had Marathon GP install it. It is a 22CF french door counter depth. Paid around $2,500 for it. Works well until it fried the board–wondering if switch between power sources had something to do with the fried board. Anyway we are back in business with the water and ice working again!

Do your homework with counter depth fridges paying close attention to dimensions. I’ve done it twice and you have to get as close to the original Amana as possible or face cabinet modifications. The problem is usually the top hinges that will be higher than the Amana.

We replaced the 1998/1999 Amana in our Liberty a few years ago with a Kenmore. I don’t have the invoice at hand, but I think it was model 51789. A number of Liberty owners had replaced their Amana with this model. I didn’t watch the guys who I had do the work, but I don’t think they had to do much to get it to fit.
We found out after using the Kenmore refrigerator on a couple of trips that it needed some more shelves and bins and bought them through Sears/Kenmore parts and they weren’t necessarily inexpensive. Other than that, it certainly gets the job done.
What kind of inverters do you have? Older, modified sine wave? or the new technology inverters that put out pure sine wave? If older, Jeff will probably counsel you to put in the new inverters as new appliances (like the new refrigerators) apparently don’t like modified sine wave electricity. Personally, for me, I can’t tell the difference. 120volts AC at 60hz is 120 volts AC at 60hz

Samsung refers are happy on modified sine wave inverters.

Mine is like Dicks Kenmore 51789 perfect fit. It does suck that they don’t give you enough shelves for the freezer, had to buy 2 more and they weren’t cheap.

Our previous 2000 Marathon H3-45 now owned by Dan and Judy had an original Amana refrigerator, 2015.
It was replaced with the Sears Kenmore #51789.
Only modification / change done was removing the bottom rollers.

Anyone have a source for XL windshields besides Prevost? According to their site the minimum order is 5 at a time. A few more than I will need to replace my refrigerator (I hope!). Has anyone gotten just 1 from Prevost? West coast preferred

I called Prevost in Nashville about 6 weeks ago pricing windshields. They had a special going on at the time on glass. It ended the 31st of last month. They quoted Me a price for 1 and a cheaper price for 2 , 3 and 5. Getting cheaper by the qty. He even gave Me an estimate of labor hours to change each one out. If You call a Prevost service center and talk to a live Human, I am sure they will be glad to sell You just one.

Once again, the ETLC team did a great job of replacing my refrigerator but not without a little upper cabinet modification. We went with a Maytag side by side unit. On the way home I had to stop by Home Depot and buy the matching microwave and installed it last night. Not sad to see the old Amana go but it did hang in there for 15 years.

I just did a new microwave at Jeff’s as well. I found a new Sharp that has identical dimensions as the old one and used all the same mounting brackets, no modification needed.
